NIB E6420
from a person, but new in box.

Used e6600
Used and taken to a mere 3.2 (overclocked by auto board settings)

New e6750
Straight from newegg

New e6550
Straight from newegg

Again, I want to overclock 🙂

Suggestions?

you don't list the prices for the first two processors so it is hard to compare. I like to by processors new and with a warranty but a new in box e6420 sounds safe enough. Both the e6420 and e6600 will overclock well and are generally less (used for the e6600) expensive than the e6x50s. The 333mhz chips have had problems with overclocking with the e6750 hitting "only" 3.4 to 3.6 and the e6550 has a very low multi but the e6420 I know will be good for at least 3.2 ghz maybe 3.4ghz. I am buying an e4x00 series to overclock past 3ghz to hold me off until penryn is cheap (e4400 is 126 new w/free shipping).

I'm extremely disappointed with my e6750, but it appears to be more the oc exception than the rule. figure 3.5-3.6 stable 24/7 on an e6750, 3.2-3.4 on an e6550, ditto e6600, and 3.1-3.3 on the e6420. If the price is good then the e6420 is probably your best bet, ohterwise e4300 for $100 is probably a nice choice since it's a good bet to hit 2.8-3.0 and it will last you until you go for a penryn upgrade or a nehalem UPGRADE.

that was some strong negotiating! e 6420 for 150 shipped looks awfully tempting to me, esp after my big disappointment with a 1333 chip.

what's wrong with 3.48Ghz?

I saw an e6600 for $150 (used) at FS site last night.
Unsure it's still there for the grab.
Otherwise, it'd be a bargain of the week for you.

Nothing is wrong with it, but I was expecting to get a little bit higher at reasonable voltages. I held off on a quad with the expectation that I'd end up about 500 mhz faster with the e6750. I think that with the rest of my system it's reasonable to assume that I'd get 3.2 + on a g0 quad. I've talked to several people about this, it seems that many fall into my camp of low oc at high vcore, while there are also quite a few that hit 3.6/3.7 at good vcore. Oh well, this will just speed my upgrade cycle...

hopefully I'll do a little bit better after flashing my bios properly. ILYK
