Torn between this choice.

On one hand, a new in the box e6420.

The other:
an e6600 that is known to oc well on air and could go even higher on my water.

Ideas?

you're taking a chance with the e6600 but you will almost certainly get more out of it. It will probably last you until you decide to sell it in 24 mos to buy a 24-core ht enabled penrynhalem for 99.95. well, it might be 2995.95 if amd doesn't get off their keisters... and it might only have 2 cores clocked at 3.99 ghz...and still be using fsb...man I'm depressed...

Yea I considered that, but then I thought, well what about the potantial for the 6420...

I don't want to end up like this:

"Its so damn hot, MILK WAS A BAD CHOICE"

How well is "well"? I would say not to expect anything higher than 3.5ghz for the E6420.

well being its been to 3.6 on a ds3 with air.

I have a 680i with water.

Plus, the 6600 is lapped.

If they're the same price, go with the 6600. I'd say it's pretty certain that you'd get a better chip, even if it is used.
