The only reason I would watch a hockey game is to see them fight and kick the crap out of each other :p

The owners dont want to pay out the nose for players, the players want more money...same old story.
I have to agree with Chelios though, they should drop some of the teams they have out there...not enough interest.

I am seriously missing the ice too. I am a huge hockey fan. This year I wanted to finally get a chance to see my favorite player Mario when he came to philly. I also wanted to see Kariya this year as well. This really sucks. But I think they need a hard cap though. They also need to have a salary schedule like in the NBA. Everyday I hope I'll read the news that they finally struck a deal and we'll get a half a season like before. That was great too. But they are blowing it though. Too many organizations are operating by losing money. I can't see Qttawa and the Pens are another team as well, unfortunately, staying put where they are. I hope they can get it ironed out soon.

<--season ticket holder for an AHL team.

Things may be bad for the NHL, but the AHL is awesome this year. We have a whole bunch of guys who would otherwise be playing in the NHL, they are experimenting with some new rules, most of which I like, the All Star weekend is @ my rink (Manchester, NH), and my team is blowing away the rest of the league.

:)

One of the great things about living in New England...never a shortage of hockey. If the AHL isn't enough, I can always pick up some college hockey games with some great teams like UNH, BC, BU, Maine, etc.

:)

How about those pooor NHL players who the owners are trying to deprive them of a "living"....oh yeah..they are all in Europe...

Fvck em. :|

Lacrosse season is coming up for the San Jose Stealth. Other than the 2/7 day of dosage of college football and NFL, I need something else for the other 5 days of the week :(

Ratings for the NHL would not have skyrocketed due to basketball because basketball ratings suck too. They're both crappy games that are only watched by the most dedicated sports fans and bored guys who can't find anything good to watch. Baseball, Football and Basketball could all disappear off the face of the earth and NHL ratings would still be in the toilet. It's a game few can relate to, fewer play and it televises like crap.

Hockey ratings won't skyrocket unless hockey stopped being hockey. I've seen the sport on TV, and I've attended 2 NHL games, and I know exactly what I'm missing and I sleep easy every night.

I'm almost to the point where I don't care if the NHL survives. I'm a Canucks fan, but every city of import(Canadian :p ) has a Junior or NHL Farm team that's worth watching and ticket prices are reasonably priced as well. The NHL disbanding would just allow Hockey to build up from scratch again without the disruption.
