NHL 07 not recommended

I have never written a post like this. I am that upset about this game. I feel utterly ripped off for my $40.

1) First game I've bought in years that did not work on my computer out of the box. Took two hours of reading through forums, updating drivers etc etc to get the thing running.

2) Will not recognize my joystick. Very common problem. It will reset all your settings repeatedly, and when you set button #1 to do something it often will completely ignore your suggestions. Oh, and some buttons need not be pressed and they will still do their action. My button #3 is unuseable because it acts as if its constantly being pressed.

3) Trades are nearly impossible. The system is incredibly awful, making my favorite part of the game nearly unuseable. The UI is so god awful here that it literally takes 5 minutes to propose a trade to a single team, which they will always turn down. Even if its a reasonable trade, it will usually push the team over their salary cap, but you can't see other teams salary caps so you have no idea what's going on.

4) The whole UI is direct console port. Its clunky, slow, and generally worthless.

I am 100% dissatisfied with this game. The joystick problem is really the deal sealer, I can't even play. I am stuck with the keyboard which really sucks.

I would agree with you for most sports games on the PC. The controls and legacy support are often bad and the user interface is overly complicated. NHL is in a league of it's own, pardon the pun, because the gameplay is far from realistic.

After all these years EA still can't make a good NHL game. I bought the 360 version and it looks and plays like something ten years ago. I'm gonna get rid of it.

Yeah I downloaded the FIFA 07 demo last night and played it for about 7 minutes maximum before getting frustrated, turning it off and deleting it from my computer.

I remember playing an old FIFA (and an old NHL) on my laptop a few years back and really enjoying it, but not this time, it was horrible.

I've got EA Sports FIFA 06, all the Madden's, Nascar, and MVP 05 (they didn't make an 06) and all work great for the PC. I have a gamepad that is much like the PS2 controller and I have no problems mappign the keys to the gamepad buttons. I haven't played hockey since the days of super nintendo (mid 90's), so I don't know about that game. But all the EA sports games I've played on PC have been good.

The other thing I hate:

I was Calgary. Does that seem wrong to you?

Oh yeah, and the computer will call penalties like crazy based on the winning team. The winning team gets tons of penalties...insane amounts. I don't want to turn them off either because I like to think its a little realistic, but I generally spend 50% of any game short handed.

Doesn't surprise me. Most EA sports for PC games are crap, and the last year or two have completely proved this.

NHL '06 had almost everything wrong with it. The way it seems is that '07 is worse. '05 worked OK but against '04 wasn't worth it. NHL '04 was great. The graphics looked awesome a couple of years ago (with a lesser rig like no AA/AF), so I think they are good still, yet they crank out games with improved graphics but screw up most everything else. Yes, I enjoy a game with good/pleasing to the eye graphics, but really there's much more to the game than that. When you make an absolute crap UI or have so many issues with the controls, they really should spend time on other things other than the graphics or stupid new features (think the 1 different thing that every sports game has every year, and they screw it up).

Lol, Sutter looks drunk in that pic

I like NHL 07 for the xbox 360, skill stick is a nice addition, takes a while to get used to but the game plays nicely, for the pc it's kinda meh, but it also performs not to bad, i had no problem with my logitech rumblepad, or the instalation.

Ever since the masterpiece known as HNL '94 it's all been down hill.

SOme like 95, but it just started getting way to complex at that point.

Did you play NHL 06? I heard it's pretty much the same as 06, including engine, interface and everything. I got the game, but no time to play.
