NH-U12P or HDT-S1283?

Just curious as to if anyone tried them? Which one has best temperature vs noise? --

Also I was wondering what people do with your old coolers, do you recycle them?

I think U12P does better in some circumstances. I have a Vendetta 2 (S1283 clone) seems alright, but I feel it needs a case with more air flow to do better than a regular non-DHT HSF. So I say if you got good case with lots airflow, get a DHT, or else get the U12P.

case airflow has nothing to do with a "direct touch heatpipe" configuration,.... fin spacing, fin thickness, fan speed, passive, etc would

Low noise with good performance,... the noctua would probably be the best bet out of box, the xiggy and vendetta 2 are both good choices at lower price points (especially the xiggy) and you can have the fan rev lower via motherboard or controller

Bang for the buck with ok but not best noise out of box,.. Xiggy, then vendetta 2, then noctua

If you add in a retention bracket (which is not needed, it will lower temps a bit 1 - 2 degrees, peace of mind, extra $$$) for the xiggy and vendetta 2,...it will bring the price up a bit

Right now on newegg xiggy is $32 shipped, then $10 rebate
vendetta 2 $50 shipped, then $10 rebate (close to as quiet as noctua, quieter than xiggy)
noctua $60 + shipping (most quiet,..)

bracket is $9 shipped

Just some info,...
review between u12p and vendetta2
http://www.guru3d.com/article/...cooler-roundup-review/

A much better review (in my opinion) of u12p, vendetta2 and xiggy 1283 since it compares with same fan on each to measure ability of heatsink alone.

and another review based on provided fans, that is between vendetta2, xiggy1283 and a siimilar one, the sunbeam(tuniq) core contact freezer (on guru3d they list is as tuniq)
http://www.frostytech.com/arti...?articleid=2279&page=5

Edit: point of reference as well,.. sunbeam CCF is $40, then $10 rebate, but is noisier which is why I didn't include above,... however you could get a fan to replace included.

I wasn't that impressed with my U12P, to be honest.
I'd go with the Xiggy. I've got one of those as well & it out-performs almost everything I got...even a lapped Tuniq!

Just asking, which would you recommend for a good overclocking HSF, yet quiet? The noctua is too expensive, and the tuniq core contact freezer is nowhere to be found in Holland. I have a p182, some ppl say a true wont fit, which is to expensive anyways. OCZ 2 vendatta is an option, xigmatek 1283, zerotherm nirvana or plain old tuniq tower 120.

Go with the Xiggy or one of its' variants.
If you don't like the push-pin mounting, then get a backplate for it.
When I got my Xiggy, the company was running a special where they'd send a free backplate w/proof of purchase.
I know for a fact that it'll fit in a P182...i've had one of those before too. 🙂

I have the xig S1283 "Red Scorpion" 9which basically means "different fan" compared with the normal S1283.

The stock fan is not anywhere near loud. It's quieter at full speed than the 140mm case fan in my Antec 300 case when set at "low", and it still performs well enough in reviews with the stock fan. I run the fan at full speed, because it's not at all intrusive.

I use the Thermalright bolt-through kit for mine.
