NFSU2 resolution problem

I can't get my NFSU2 to work on a higher resolution than 1024x768 the last days. Below that I can scale but above that no way.
I tried different driver versions uninstalling/reinstalling game and deleting savegames but nothing.
Any ideas what can be causing this?

*Rig specs are not an issue see sig below

Thanks

Dunno, I generally play it at 1280x960 myself. What do you mean "can't get it to work"?

I cant get mine higher either. Seems wierd, I thought I was playing the demo at 1280/10whatever. For me, Can't get it to work = when you try to move the resolution slider to the right ( as to increase ) the screen will flash like it is changing, but come back to 1024x768

I am using a 6600gt 128mb

I was using a ATI 9700 Pro, I think I'll install it on my x850XT PE machine and see.

:D

As Yossarian mentioned you can't move to a higher resolution. Really weird issue I've never seen such a thing before...

Anyone has an idea of what can be happening?

Well my issue is artifacts, not resolution. I can freely change resolution still on both my rigs. I'm using ATI cards though.

No I don't think it has to do with the Nvidia.
I played the game just fine with the same gpu on the same rig with a 17'' crt and a 2005fpw. No issues whatsoever, The problem appeared with my 2001FP but I think it might be driver related. Or maybe a registry entry that was changed and prevents the game from moving to a higher resolution? Dunno maybe it needs a format.

2001FP = 20'' LCD = 1600x1200 native/max resolution. So yes it does support it.

I'm not sure if this is how it works, but are you sure your monitor supports the resolution directly above 1024x768? Maybe it's trying to switch to a resolution your monitor doesnt support? Try finding a command line switch to specify the res.

Yeah the one step above it is 1280x960 which your LCD probably doesn't display.

don't forget the patch they released immediately after the game shipped... it resolved video issues.

anyone get low framerates in nfsu2? i seem to max at 30fps no matter what aa / res / settings. 9800pro and 3ghz should go higher. i think the games capped.

Yes you're right. Somehow when I swapped the monitor 1280x960 wasn't in the supported resolutions of the monitor in the display menu. From 1152x864 it went directly to 1280x1024(LCD equivalent of 12x9) in CP. So what I did was just to create/add a custom resolution to the supported ones (1280x960) and everything now is working ok in the game.
Really weird though I haven't seen such an odd way to scale in a game. Even if it uses that system of scaling and can't find 1280x960 it should automatically look for 1280x1024 or other higher resolutions.

Anyway thanks everyone

I get low rates with any resolution higher than 800x600. 800x600 is the optimum on my computer, 9600pro/axp3200. I can put all settings on full and full AA, and it will run very very smoothly at 800x600, but go up to 1024x768 and the frame rate just drops to hell, I doubt it's any higher than 15fps.

If you are running Xfire, it had issues with NFSU2 and crippled the framerates, but there is a fix for it.
