If you happened to see the Winston 500 today at Talladega, you saw why Earnhardt is the best driver of the 80's. 90's, and today. When put in a race such as today where the cars were practically equal due to restrictor plates and the new spoiler, he comes from 17th with 4 laps left to win the race. This was all driver, not car like F1 is. This wasn't like one of your F1 races where at the end you might have two people battling for the win if you are lucky, there were 20 people battling until they crossed the finish line.

One more thing, if F1 drivers are so good, why will they not compete in IROC.......scared? CART and Indy drivers do. Earnhardt has proven the last two years he is the greatest driver by winning that series. After winning this year he made the comment that he wished the F1 drivers would come over and try thier luck.

You will probably say something about them being huge heavy pieces of metal and how all the drivers are rednecks, but the fact is your F1 drivers could not hang if put in a race with NASCAR drivers where all cars were equal.

Hell, you can throw any decent driver in a closed fender car (NASCAR or IROC) and let them bang it up and draft around around in circles.

You throw Earnhardt in an open wheel F1 car or CART car and let him try to bang wheels and "rub fenders." That mofo will be flying higher than Charlie Sheen after a good "coke" party :)

<< why will they not compete in IROC.......scared? CART and Indy drivers do. >>

WTH kind of comeback is that? All IROC and IRL and most CART races take place in the US. Is F1 as big in the states as IRL or CART? Probably not. That's just like saying why don't NASCAR drivers race in the BTCC. F1 drivers are big in Europe, not the US; so what good would it do for them to race in an American series where MOST Americans don't know who the hell you are anyway.

The recent F1 race in the states is a start for F1 drivers being recognized, but it's still not an All-American sanctioned event like IROC.

That is the way racing was meant to be. You don't see us driving open wheel cars around the street so why in the hell would you race one. Saying Earnhardt couldn't race an F1 car......I don't know, but I gaurantee someone like Tony Stewart would easily be competitive. You still aren't arguing te point which is that NASCAR is more about the driver where Earnhardt is one of the greatest. F1 is all about the car. If it wasn't about the car you would have more close races in F1 involving 5 or 6 cars at the end.

By the way, did you see the race today? I doubt it. You can't really call yourself a race fan if you love one form of racing but totally hate another. I am a fan of all racing including open wheel. I really like watching MotoCross.

Indy, Cart, F1 = glorified go karts. I mean gimme a break, they dont even look like cars. The reason that they don't catch on in the U.S. like NASCAR is cause 85% of the drivers need greencards just to drive in the races. Not to say they don't have skills, but last Indy race I watched hurt my ears... too many foreign names.

Today's race was extremely good. Best race I have seen. Even though Dale won :). The new rule changes made the cars more competitive while keeping them safe.

As far as Dale being best driver... He is good, no question. He was probably best in the 80's... but who had the most wins in the 90's? Who has NEVER used a provisional to get in a race? Who was the fastest driver to 50 wins? Who can have a NASCAR season comprised of 7 wins and have it be considered an "off season?" Only one driver my friend :), and you know who he is... I don't even need to mention his name.

I can put aside differences, as long as your not a C-Rusty or Screwart fan :)

And why are there no NASCAR to Indy/Cart/F1 defections, while I can think of at least 5 in recent years that went from open wheel to NASCAR (of which only one has been successful, and they are all big names)?

jhu-

Yeah, that kinda sucks anymore. They used to be bone stock, but over the years the need for more speed has necessitated the cars we now have in NASCAR.

Futuramatic,

Thanks for helping me out, but please don't tell me you are talking about the Rainbow Sissy Boy? He is good, but since Evernham left he is not the same. Mark Martin is another excellent driver who hasn't won a champinoship. However, he has several IROC champinoships showing that he is an great driver.

Why would I choose to watch something I don't like? I watch NASCAR if there isn't anything else on TV...which isn't often:)

I bet you don't watch old fat men prance around in thongs on the beach on the satellite dish. But I bet you would watch a bunch of half nekid women frolicking in the sand. Hey, but why watch one and not the other according to your philosophy :p

Otherwise, I enjoy all forms of motorsports except, NASCAR, drag racing, SuperTruck, and those dumb ass little cars with the big wing on the top that run around in circles in the mud...pointless crap:p

Not the same. Men and women are two different things. Racing is racing no matter what form.

My complaints about NASCRAP is not the cars or the rednecks it is the sheer boredom of watching these morons go around in circles. I enjoy nascar races at places like Watkins Glen or Road Atlanta but 200 miles on a half miles left turn is so stupid.

Of course it's the same. Men and women are both human. F1 and NASCAR are both forms of racing. Racing just happens to have more "genders" than humans do ;)

Exactly, it's such stupid and pointless crap. And even then on Watkins Glen with NASCAR, the cars porpoise, float, and wobble all through the turns like a Lincoln Town car dodging through city traffic. :)

Now, I *might* watch a NASCAR race if it's on a road course, but they are so few and far between,

You try to make something as big and heavy as a NASCAR stockcar go through those turns any smoother. The point of the long oval track races is to simply see which driver can sit out there and last the longest. Like I have already saad, it is all about the driver in NASCAR.

Now now... no need to be calling names here :) Lord knows I could go off on Dale, but I won't ;) But notice how I didn't even need to mention his name :) Evernham was a key part of the team, and since he left they have just been an above average team, but they are coming around. There is always adjustment when a significant change is made, which is why alot of the small teams never take off... they just don't stick with it. They had a good showing today. Another lap or 2 and he would have been fighting with Dale.

I pull for Martin every race, but he messed himself up today. I like him... another of the nice guys in the sport.

Yakko-
Some races are kinda dull. Talledega was a really dull race until they made the recent rule changes that livened up the action. I don't suppose you saw any of today's race? It was non-stop lead changes (over 50 by race-end I believe, with something like 27 different leaders). Today's race is what NASCAR should be, and usually is.

NFS4-
Yeah, only 2 road courses a year (Watkins and Sears Point). I wish they had more, cause Gordon kicks ass at those races. If anyone could make it in F1, I think Gordon could.

The driver? Anybody can run around making left turns all day and downshift and upshift every once in a while. What's so special about that?

Try taking a corner at just the right speed, or hit the apex just right. How about knowing how fast you can go on the straightaway before braking for the hairpin turn up the hill and to the right. THAT'S driving. Not running around in fricken circles for hours drafting and banging people in the ass.

Slap:

F1 rides go to the absolute very best drivers around, just like GP bikes go to the very best riders on the planet. At any given time, there are only two or three people capable of driving (riding) the best equipment on the earth to full capability. Does that mean that NASCAR is not good racing? Of course not; but it doesn?t mean the drivers are to be considered with the best in the world.

Has America produced world champions in the past? Sure, and lots of them on two wheels and inside four wheels. Is there lurking within NASCAR a driver capable of running near the front of F1 even with equipment supplied by McLaren or Ferrari? I wish there were, but I think not.

F1 is not about how many people lead during a race, or how close the finish, or how many lead changes there are. It is purely, and simply, about the best drivers in the world with the best equipment man can produce. Just because 43 drivers can stay fairly close to each other for 500 miles on a banked oval does not mean a single one of them could even qualify for an F1 event.

Is NASCAR fun to watch? Absolutely, as are the World of Outlaw sprinters, the AMA dirt track series, and even CART. But, there can only be one pinnacle of the sport, and F1 is alone in the four wheel league, just as the 500 GP?s are for bikes. Any other form, or series or racing, should be viewed as a logical stepping stone to the top, or simply to find out just where you belong in the overall mix. We can?t all be the very best, but we can have fun at all levels of the sport, so just enjoy what ever level suits you.

That is merely an opinion. I do however agree with some of your points. You are a fan of racing, unlike NFS4 :)

How can that be when they haven't competed in all forms of 4 wheel racing. How do we know they are the best? Why is it the best equipment? Because it has a big wing in the back?

RobSan-
Maybe I have not given F1 its proper respect, but the split between Indy and CART some years ago left a bad taste in my mouth over open wheels (except sprints). I know F1 isnt anything to do wiht Indy/CART, but the cars look similar, and that's enuf for me :) They all seem so... snobbish. Now I know that they aren't all that way, but of the NASCAR racers I do not like, most of them are from open wheel racing (Indy/CART mainly). I did like Nigel Mansell, but he hasn't raced in awhile.

I think your blanket statement about NASCAR not being able to do F1 is a little brutish. I think there are at least 3 or 4 who, while not dominant, would be competitive given a generous break-in period.

Glad to hear you like it all. NFS4, its okay, everyone has there faults :)

The TRUE BOLD difference between NASCAR and F1/Indy/CART is tha NASCAR isn't just about driving the cars... its about the cars themselves. A lot of emphasis is put on setting up the car. Sometimes I think that the crews deserve more credit than the drivers. Sometimes, outside of a good crew, all a driver needs is to be a little bit crazy and take the corner faster than the other guy ;)

Which ones are you thinking about? I would say Stewart, Gordon, Steve Park, and maybe Dale, Jr.

Park, eh, maybe. Dunno much about his road course ability. Havent's seen Dale Jr. enuf to know. Unfortunately, one of mine is my arch enemy, Rusty Wallace. He is good on road courses. Gordon of course :) Stewart, with his Indy car knowledge, woudl work well there too...
