NFS Rivals Question

Hey all I just registered.

I need some opinions on my problem here, I just bought NFS Rivals and I'm sick of playing it at 30fps so I used the fix that unlocks it to 60fps.

Now when I do that I just cannot keep a solid 60fps with my setup. Here's my specs:

CPU: Intel i5 4670 3.4GHz (TB 3.8)
GPU: XFX R9 280X DD Black OC Edition (1080/1550)
RAM: 12GB DDR3 1333MHz
HDD: 1.3TB
Monitor Res: 1280x1024

According to Ghost Games/EA themselves, it recommends a GTX 660 or HD 7870 to max the game. My 280X is way faster than both of them, so I don't see why I should not be able to keep a solid 60.

I noticed that my GPU usage didn't go past 88%, and my CPU usage didn't go past 70-ish% running the game on all max settings.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

You've got some sort of problem that may or may not be related to settings or drivers.
Maybe see if theres some essential windows updates you are missing, but I cant think of anything that should kill performance.

And dont rely too much on CPU usage. I've run Crysis on a barebones system and it still didnt max out my hardware. Windows 7 is very good about not letting a single app control your system, unless you override it.

In fact if you get a chance, ALT-tab to the desktop, run Task Manager, right click on the game, and set CPU priority to something higher. You might be surprised that even in HIGH the game wont use all of your cores at max.

Ok, thanks. I had forgotten about setting CPU priority. I'll give that a go now.

Edit:

No, no improvement at all. Still terrible lag. I also have a similar lag problem with Grid 2. Do you think I should do a complete re-install of Windows and see if that fixes it?

Edit 2:

Thought I'd try the Catalyst Beta drivers 14.1, but still have no improvement.

Sorry, I don't like bumping threads but no one will see my problem if I don't :\

I also have this problem with other games that I should be able to max at 60+ fps. These are Grid 2, RaceRoom Racing Experience, DiRT Showdown, and NFS Most Wanted 2012 (mostly 60fps with this one but it does drop sometimes).

With my setup all those games should run fine.

I honestly dont know but I really dont think reinstalling Windows is the key.

Maybe uninstall your drivers, use a driver cleaner, and reinstall them.
You'll have to reset a couple times, but thats all.

Been there, done that. I'll do it again though to make sure.

Could it be that my PSU isn't powerful enough? Its an XFX PRO650w.

No, my cpu isn't oc'd, but my graphics card is factory oc'd (black edition) but its stable, I ran 3dmark11 & furmark (with max AA) with no problems.

Ok, I just used Display Driver Uninstaller to completely remove CCC, and reinstalled it.

Still no difference, the game lags in certain areas and then in others its fine. Do you think that my gpu could be underperforming or something crazy like that?

Edit:

Just found out that even if I put everything to lowest settings I still get the framerate drops. I'm really confused now :S

I tried the 60fps workaround in NFS Rivals too, and I also cannot maintain 60fps. The framerate swings absolutely everywhere, regardless of what settings or resolution I use.

Safe to say at this point that the game simply was never optimized - let alone intended - to be running at 60fps. sorry.
