NFR 4-Sale

well NFR is getting popular in the FS/FT forum almost every other software post is for it.

but ive noticed that they dont enforce it

Strawberrymom, The Mods take care of things (as they just did in that thread). You just have to give them time. They can't possibly read every thread on the boards.

I thought MS's stance on this was if it had a COA it could be sold?

Individuals are not subject to the OEM license (ie must be sold with hardware, etc.), & if NFR software has a COA (I dunno if it does, but if it does), then what's the problem?

Viper GTS

ViperGTS, that is all fine with OEM software(having a COA) but, not NFR. When it says "Not For Resale" right on the media/booklet/box)ou simply cannot resell it. That is what not for resale means 😉 The Mods have allowed it to be traded though, which should be fine in regards to MS licensing agreements.

I'm well aware what NFR stands for, but much like the OEM contract I doubt it extends to the end user.

Can you *trade* it for cash? 😛

I had a question about H cards...not that I have any, but are they allowed to be sold? I only ask because they say right on them something like "property of DSS, must be returned if requested" or something like that...

<< NFR..doesn't that only apply to resellers? >>

OK, I will email MS and get a definitive answer on this in regards to end users selling NFR software.

<< NFR - See Not for Resale

Not for Resale - The manufacturer of the product asked the original purchaser not to resell the package. These are often sold to dealers so that the dealer may become familiar with the product. Licensing and support varies with the manufacturer. "Not for Resale," "NFR," "Promotional Sample Not for Resale" and "Reseller Demo" versions: These are complete, promotional copies of the software provided to computer resellers from the software manufacturer. These are generally not eligible for upgrades when they become available, and may not include tech support, if offered by the manufacturer. This evaluation software is identical in function and packaging to the retail software of the same version. They are not licensed for resale, and so no license for use transfers.

That appears to me to include everyone, resellers and end users.

All arguments aside, I believe the mods take pride in making sure Anandtech Forums is above reproach. The popularity of Anandtech lends it to much scrutiny, and as such, stricter guidelines. One reason this became an issue was the proliferance of NFR software that would hit the FS/FT forum right after some MS software unveiling event or giveaway. The idea of finding a Hot Deal link to a MS site that gave away a ton of free software for answering a survey, that was intended for true retailers, and then turning around and selling it for profit runs parallel to the ruling regarding dealers.

Nope, check the FS/T forum rules. They've just added H/HU cards to the list of things you cannot sell/trade on Anandtech.
