nForce4 ultra SATA autodetect problem (crisis)

Epox EP9NPA-Ultra mobo hangs on autodetect SATA drive. Tried two new Seagate 7200.7 160g drives. Went through all BIOS settings. My question to you experts: is this most likely a mobo fault? I despair of getting prompt service from Epox ("Our techs are on holiday schedule" Easter? New Years? April Fools Day?) so if people think that the mobo is the problem I will just order an Asus from Newegg and put a replaced Epox in one of the children's boxes. Just want to be sure where the problem likely is.

Yes in the initial bios screens, way before OS boot.
