Nforce4 SATA aggravation

What college do I need to go to to get my SATA drive (Maxtor) to install XP Home? I have tried several different drivers on floppy, turning things on and off superstitiously in the motherboard and even bought a new copy of XP and I can only get setup to see the old EIDE drive I have in there. Anybody been through this that can lend me some pointers? Thanks.

You're not pressing F6 during installation are you...because it's not needed with the nForce4 chipset. Just install normally.

I have tried both methods and they both do the same thing to me. I considered flashing the drives firmware but I doubt that would do it. Maybe going to a new BIOS? I have 1.0b right now.

NOt saying what mobo you have doesn't make it easy....get a friend to try you SATA drive, flash the bios, that's all I can really say.

Disconnect all of your harddrives but the drive that you want to install Windows on. Also, you won't need to install any drivers, unless your running a RAID.

If I unplug the EIDE drive the computer beeps incessantly. ECS tech support tells me either my SATA drive is bad or my controller is. Since I just got a new motherboard, which is more likely? Thanks.

If I bought a PCI SATA controller would that make a difference if the onboard one is defective? Since the SATA drive worked with my old motherboard I think that might be the case. Granted I wasn't trying to boot XP off it but it still worked.
