Nforce4(ck8-04) launches in 3 weeks

NVIDIA WILL introduce its flagship chipset on October 19th.
...
Nvidia will introduce two of its three chipsets - its mid range Nforce 4 Ultra and Nforce 4, while it will leave the Nforce 4 SLI launch for a later date.

There are two different reasons that we are hearing for this. One is that Nvidia has some software problems with its SLI driver while Nvidia's argument is that it actually doesn't want to put other single PCIe slot chipsets in the shadow of the flagship SLI performance king.

These chipsets will support all sockets for Athlon and Opteron CPUs including 754, 939 and 940; will support DDR 400 memory; one to two PCIe graphic ports; S-ATA and S-ATA RAID; Sound Storm 7.1 and Nvidia LAN.

Maybe they're right.. Nice to see Nvidia has a 754 set planned. Thought it wasn't coming with Sound Storm though? For that matter Nvidia swore up and down it wouldn't be NF4.

intel has hi def audio, i think ati's licensing it for their p4 chipsets. via has hi def audio, check out the albatron K8X800 Pro 2 and terratec space 7.1 or m-audio revolution 7.1.

If nvidia wants to be a contender they too need hi def audio.

I'm going to be highly surprised if it does ship in 3 weeks. The selection of nForce3 boards alone is still lacking.

Dude, there is no need for you to even go NF4 from the system you have. Unless you wanted to go the SLI route, but then agiain, you wouldn't be able to do that with an AGP card anyway.

Somehow it just doesn't seem like Nforce without integrated graphics.

Some sort of int. GFFX 5600 or something would be nice. 😉

I'm really surprised to hear that SoundStorm hasn't died. Certain NV insiders over at NForcersHQ forums swear that SoundStorm is dead and will never come back. I wonder if their tunes have changed yet.

*heads over to NForcersHQ to find out*

Nope, I didn't see any discussion over there about SS2. I don't know if I believe this report as much as I want to....

The Nvidia website says that SLI motherboards will be available in October. It doesn't say that it is Nforce4 or even for AMD. Since PCI-E has been out for Intel boards longer, my guess would be that SLI shows up there first.

Soundstorm isn't going to happen, this has been said by Nvidia many times. The mobo makers think it isn't worth the extra cost, so Nvidia isn't going to put it on there till they ask for it. But, it will still have 7.1 audio even if it isn't soundstorm.

They still don't have any 6800 series cards out for PCI-E. There's no way I'm buying a Nforce4 mobo without being able to get a 6800GT for it.

i highly doubt we will be seeing sli on an intel board for a while. as far as i kno the 915 and 925 only support 24 lanes.

tumwater chipset has 2 PEG slots. nvidia has already showed off sli on intel platform

ehrm..they must be really stupid releasing pcie boards and the only decent pcie card out would be the ATI one 🙂 SO...i hope the NF4 comes out the same time as 6800 PCIE...

I'd glady spend $150 on that

-Awesome layout, can be used with cases such as the Li-Lian PC-V1200
-At least 4 serial ATA ports, that are completely native
-At least 2 E-IDE Channels that are native
-Gigabit Ethernet that is native
-Something simaller to SoundStorm or better 🙂
-Ability to accept large heatsinks such as the XP-120
-Passive cooling on the SouthBridge or other bridges...
-Loads of overclocking opitions
-A BIOS that accepts updates from a USB Device DEATH TO FLOPPY DRIVES!!!

yeh but you'll be lucky to nab a nforce 4 board for 150 when its first launched. itll probably be in the upwards of the 180'ish range.
