Hi ,

Ive been waiting for ages to get a AMD 64 setup and im just about 2 weeks away from getting enough money for the one i wanted .

But the my choice included Lan Party nForce3 board .

Im from the UK so i dont know if the US has nForce4 or what but would you think it would be worthwhile waiting for the nForce4 board as i see on a Japanese site the Lanparty nForce4 SLi Range and they look hot :D

dont wait for the nforce4 boards right away. Just get an nforce3-250 and wait for the nforce4's to get better and cheaper.

It also depends on when you're willing to upgrade. If you're gonna wait 3 years before an upgrade, then wait, because in 3 years higher version of NF will be out. However if you're only gonna wait 1 year, then get a NF3 now and wait for the NF4's to get better.

if we were six months or so away from the nforce4, i'd say go ahead and buy the nforce3 board. but in this case, you're just a few weeks away. why not sit the fence a bit longer and see how these new boards perform?

Since NF4 is not a new design built ground up but a modified NF3-250, there wouldn't be any kinks in the MB anyways.

a major consideration is are you ready to upgrade graphcis as well? If you are then wait for nforce4, if not go with nforce3, as nforce4 seems to be pci express only.

Will there be an agp slot on the new nforce 4 boards? If not, will there be some type of converter that will allow me to put my 6800 gt into a pci slot?

There's no native AGP support in nForce4. There will probably be boards with an AGP slot that runs on the PCI bus, from Albatron, ECS, and Gigabyte. See this: http://www.techreport.com/revi...px915agpe/index.x?pg=1

Also, VIA might release a chipset for AMD K8 supporting both PCI-E graphics and AGP natively.

Looks like there is alot less peformance with these agpe slots. Guess I will just sell off my 6800 gt and get a pcie card along with the new nforce 4.

Thanks for the info people .

I dont know what im going to do ... i dont have the money for a GFX card upgrade ... but mabye by the time nForce4 LanParty boards are in the UK i will have enough money for 1 .

I think i'll sit around for another few weeks anyway , as im buying a AMD 64 3200+ Socket 939 chip ... so i want to mabye wait for the socket 939 Lan party nForce3 OR nForce4 .

I can only see socket 754 Lan Party boards.

so , i'll wait another month proberly . ;)

I hate this about upgrading ... when you get you mind made up about what you want ... then you get the money , by the time your about to purchase your product , theres a newer better release comes out to the market ... arrghh

From what I have seen, unless you plan to buy 2x $550+ cards, going with PCI-e isn't really that huge of a performance gain. A 6800 Ultra still outperforms 2x 6600GTs for the same price. NForce4 is only really worth it to me if I am going dual PCI-e and frankly I am not ready to spend 200 on a mobo + 1 grand on 2 video cards for a slight upgrade. NF3 boards are cheap and most of them are in their final revisions, which are fairly stable.

Theres no way on this earth i would spend any more than £150 on a GFX card .

I only play games like UT2004 every now and then , im not a hardcore gamer .

I would rather spend my money on something that dosent half in value within 6 months.

I the UK you can get an X800 for £400 , but in like 6 months it will be about £200-250 when the next upgeaded card is released .

I dont really care too much about GFX card performance , as long as it plays UT2004 and similar games , and can play all my DVD's etc etc ... then it will do fine .

My current card is a Chaintech FX5900XT 256mb and that good enough.
