I need to clear this up once and for all. From the sounds of it the nforce4/ultra/sli boards need a 24pin PSU. I am staying in the 90 - 120 price range. Also, I am not limited to just these PSU's, but I am limited to that price range.

ENERMAX Noisetaker Series 470W
ENERMAX Coolergiant 480W

1. Are these both 24 Pin?
2. Are they PCI-E ready?
3. Any problems/expiriences you want to share?
4. Will it power and be stable for the following specs?

nforce4 ultra
AMD64 3500 .90nm
1gb value ram
2 Optical Drives
160gb seagate sataII
6800GT
Audigy 2 ZS
thermaltake tsunami va3000

1. Yes, they both have 20 to 24 pin adapters included.
2. Not really sure what you mean. To my knowledge pcie doesn't have any special power requiements.
3. Don't have one, but I know enermax is generaly regaurded as one of the best PS makers.
4. Both of these should easily power what you've got w/o a hiccup.

I am confused about those adapters? Dont you need 24Pin psu for the new nforce4 mobos? Wouldn't a 20 - 24pin adapter lose stability, ect?

wheels - I highly recommend the Antec Neopower 480. I previously had an Enermax Coolergiant 480 that I bought back before they started including the adapters. Since I didn't have the adapter, I decided to get one of the Antecs and sell the Enermax on ebay. While it is a very nice PSU, I like the Antec much better due to the fact that it is a modular design.

I would also highly recommend the OCZ over the Enermax. Nothing wrong with the ENermax but the OCZ seems to have more "power". ALso IIRC the OCZ is the only one out the supports the PCI-E standard however many PSU's out there support the 24pin cable.

not necessarely "stabilty", but it would put a lot of load on the rails which the PSU/plugs originally were not intended to. the thermal load on a rail would increase 4x.

The 20p -> 24p adapter would "artificially" split ONE rail/wire coming from the PSU in two..thus drawing more power.

flexy,

What about using an Antec 550EPS power supply w/ the new A8N-SLI/NF4 mobo's ?

Will this work ? It is a 24pin power supply w/ 36A on the +12V rail. It cost only $112 which is cheaper than the OCZ 520 ps.

Thanks for the info.

Regards,
Jose
