My stock MSI active fan has died, and they sent out a replacement, but it is for their video card. No I'm stuck with no hsf at all. Are these chips thermally protected? I was thinking about trying to run it at stock speeds.
 
The good news is it looks as though a simple passive heat sink, like an old 486 sink would do the trick...now for mounting...hmmmmm
