nforce2 sound problems

ok now i have a msi nforce2 board... and when i play bf42 i hear crackling and stuff. i have the 2.03 drivers right now...which updated driver should i do, i heard the 2.42 causes your hd to get messed up. if anyone knows anyhting or has had the dame problem, please let me know... thanx again

The drivers start off crappy, and go downhill from there. Worse, even when you do get it working, a tiny bit of extra heat in my case, and the sound craps out the same way again. Soundstorm? Sound$hitty they shoulda' called it. I got so fed up I put a Soundbastard Live! in my box instead. Put a network card in, as the on-board lan would die all the time, too.

It may be a driver related issue as many users have posted about the crackling audio problems with various games in the driver forum at Nforcershq.com. Have a look at the threads stickied at the top of the driver forum for info on the new control panel and EAX beta drivers that are fixing problems with many games Link You may just need to disable EAX but post your problem in the Nforce audio and HTPC forum there and you will get a definitive answer. The other possibility is that your southbridge is getting too hot and causing the problem. This has been the case for quite a few people so adding a good sized passive heatsink to the southbridge with thermal tape like the large chipset cooler in the Vantec iceberg kit resolves the crackling by keeping the temp under control.

Did exactly that, but it failed to resolve my issues. Then again, it certainly may work for the problems he is having.

Yeah, you are one of those unfortunate people who need the new drivers if you want to use the APU again.

Before I ever installed my 8RDA+ in the first place I mounted a decent passive cooler (NB cooler from my ASUS K7V) onto my SB chip with ASIII and pushpins and I have not once had the classic nForce2 APU sound crackling/cutout problems so many have had. Just EAX issues in ETM. And the newest beta UDAs fix them.

And never has the nForce2 MAC failed on me. I'm really impressed with it.

I have built 4 nForce2 systems and have never had a sound problem. I don't play a ton of games, but still have some shooter games, Civ type games, etc.. and none of them mess up.


Also run windowsupdate to get the newwest sound drivers WITHOUT the ide drivers.


Does your sound mess up in anything else, like MP3's, or ALL other games??? If not then go to the game makers web-site, they may have a patch.

My 8RDA+'s onboard sound works great. Never had a problem.

I put the Vantec CCB-A1C kit on it and it works great too.

Errr, what new drivers to get my APU working again?

I only play UT2003. But remember, I'm running my 2700+ at 11.5x200fsb.
