nForce2 onboard audio or Live! Value?

Just bought a new board to replace my KG7, it has the nForce2 chipset. Which do you recommend? Should I keep my Live!, or use the boards'?

I prefer the nForce2's sound myself. I have the Asus A7N8X-D, but some other nForce2 boards don't use nVidia's APU or aren't Soundstorm certified. Incidentally, which board do you have? Anyway, you ought to listen to both and decide which you like better since audio preferences are somewhat subjective. Peace.

alot of the review's ive read, the onboard sound on the nForce2 is really good. There are alot of people here that use the NForce2, they will come and vouch.

If i had a choice between NForce2 sound or Live! .. i'd go with NForce2.

I'll probably go by ear anyhow... I've been so used to such horrible onboard sound before the nForce boards, just wanted to hear what everybody thinks.

Just noticed I shouldve put this in the peripherals forum...😱

one more vote for nforce2. The erlier rev Asus A7N8X-D, which i have, has soundstorm certified sound (meaning it meets all of Nvidia's standards). The newer rev.2 A7N8X-D boards aren't certified by soundstorm for some reason i can't remember, but i hear the sound quality is still as good as ever.

outcome = go with nforce2

The onboard sound is the same for the ASUS boards, the certification is a liscensing issue that precludes them from saying it's dolby certified; other then that, I don't think they've changed anything on the board.

I'd try the onboard sound before even considering the Live card. They never were all that great, and often problematical, but they were the best available at the time. Not true anymore.

I use the onboard with an Altec Lansing 4.1 system speaker system. It sounds great to me. Might get a 5.1 setup soon, I dunno, it sounds great to me, so I'll probably save that money for a new video card or maybe some better RAM.

i have compared both directly and I would have to say go with the onbaord audio. I listen to this on my BA7800's 🙂

How about the audio on the MCP & MCP2 boards (as opposed to MCP-T) compared to the Live Value? I'm looking at boards that have MCP or MCP2.

Does anyone know if the Shuttle SN41G2 also has Soundstorm? I know they're based of a NF2 board, and they also have onboard but I've heard no mention of Soundstorm being on it.

My MSI ktn2-L is a non-MCP-T board and the onboard sound is crap. I have an Audigy though, so I only tried the onboard sound to see how it was.

Holy hell...anyway I can stop the pc speaker from comming through the main speakers?

definitely the nforce 2 audio
i have both and the soundstorm is definitely better than the SbLive! Value

Having an nForce2 (Asus A7N8x Deluxe to be exact) and previously using a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Platinum...I'd take the nForce2 audio solution over the live! 5.1 any day.
