Looking @ either the Asus A7N8X Deluxe or the Abit NF7-S?
With a AMD XP2800+
2 x 512mb Corsair 3500 XMS
SLK-800 or Alpha or Swiftech?
CPU Shim? if so where can I get one?

Any adivce would be great!!!

Just a quick note, the early revisions of the NF7-S did not have mounting holes around the Socket A, so you are probably better off going with the SLK-800. Don't know much about the Abit, but I was heavily considering buying it instead of my A7N8X-DLX before I read up on the mounting hole thing.

As Yield said, you don't need a shim. They cause more problems than solutions, and with any of those heatsinks you are considering, the excellent mounting mechanisms make it virtually impossible to damage your core.

You don't need 2 x 512, you should get 4 x 256, and since you won't be able to use the 4th one, you should send it to me ;)

PS. Everything except that last bit was serious

haha, chiz, he doesn't need the 3rd when going dual DDR either.
so for our advice, i should receive a 256 stick too. ;)

but seriously, don't buy a shim.
and i'd probably buy the A7N8X deluxe over the NF7-S if price was not a consideration. however, the NF7 is a tad cheaper.

I just built my new system around the A7N8X. It was easy to put together and I haven't had any problems with it, so far. Good luck with your system. Peace.

just a plug for the abit board.
i've got the nf7-s and i like it a lot (though i'd probably like the a7n8x too)
it is a bit cheaper and does come with the sata to ide converter, which is nice for me since i cant get an sata hd anywhere yet and it gives me another ide device.
good luck, i dont think that you can go wrong.

Are u sure the A7N8X supports PC 3500?

On the HardOCP review:

Memory

Dual-Channel DDR 400

3 x 168-pin DIMM Sockets

Max. 3 GB unbuffered PC3200/PC2700/PC2100/PC1600 non-ECC DDR RAM Memory

The Asus A7N8X supports only PC2100, PC2700, & PC3200. So it wouldnt work with the PC3500. Also for the Dual-Channel DDR you can only use PC3200. Correct me it I'm wrong.

Anyways get the Asus A7N8X, great board, lots of features for overclockers!!!!

Yes it would work with PC3500.
To get your money's worth you would have to overclock the FSB to reach PC3500 speeds though.
