I'm currently using a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. The TBSC is connected to my HT receiver via the analogue out using a y-adapter. However I'm upgrading to an Nforce2 MCP-T motherboard and it would be fantastic if I could use the onboard sound in place of the TBSC.
So my questions about the Nforce2 sound are:
1. Is the analogue output on the Nforce2 just a standard AC-97 codec? Thus, not as good as the analogue (green) output on the TBSC?
2. Is the Nforce2 optical output higher quality than the TBSC analogue output? And by higher quality, does it have clearer, cleaner sound? Not just more audio channels (i.e. 5.1 instead of Stereo)?
3. Will the Nforce2 optical out only send out a 5.1 signal? I will be using the optical out for music, and thus I want stereo. I don't want the Nforce2 upmixing my stereo music into 5.1.
