Nforce2 IDE drivers ? Can't run with CnC Generals ?

Is this really true, that you can't run nforce2 drivers with this game ? I get a "insert correct CD" now, and it runs on the same box under 98se, but abends a lot, so I wanted to use W2K. Is this a real problem, or is my motherboard bad ? Westwood says to uninstall the nforce drivers. Won't that kill my performance ? I thought Nvidia's drivers were the best, but if this is true, that is very bad, and I am really disappointed with my drivers.

Mods: I put this in general hardware, since I don't know what the problem is.

Nvidia's IDE drivers suck.. period. While they work fine for some, it seems they either cause severe lag in some systems or incompatibilities with games etc. Just revert back to the Microsoft IDE drivers

go to your device manager.. click update driver on the nvidia IDE controller..
"install from a list or specific location" - > "Don't Search. I will choose which driver to install"

choose the "Standard Dual Channel IDE COntroller"
