posted this on the motherboards forum, but it doesn't get as much traffic as here . . .

In Anand's preview/review of the KT400a he states:
The biggest performance advantage the nForce2 will have over the KT400A exists in business/general usage environments, where NVIDIA's excellent IDE drivers improve performance tremendously.

The Win2k nForce drivers do not include an IDE driver, it just uses the M$oft drivers. The XP nForce drivers include an IDE driver.

Sooo . . . is it possible to install the XP IDE driver, if I'm using Win2k to get the tremendous performance iimprovement?!? :D

I didn't even think people got tremendous IDE performance with nvidia's drivers. I thought people had issues like with getting CDRW drives to work and stuff. And terribly high CPU usage.

From the feedback I have read here on the forums, the census is to NOT install the nVidia IDE drivers during the nForce installation. I just got my new NF7-s v1.2 installed last night and I chose not to install them.

To be specific, one should not install the SW IDE drivers (don't ask me what the "SW" stands for). This causes the driver installer to use its other IDE driver, which is WHQL-certified and which avoids the aforementioned burner problems. With Win2000 installs, there is no SW driver offered, so you don't have to worry.

BTW, I did ask for clarification in this as to which IDE driver was used in AnandTech's KT400A-versus-nForce2 review, but the question hasn't been answered.
