I have an Abit NF7-2 v2 board (nForce2). Lately I've noticed I can hear what I guess is "bus noise" coming from the sound card. When I have the speakers plugged in, it is a deep "buuuuzzz" sound. When the headphones are plugged in, it sounds more like white noise, but I can also hear odd noises when the disk is doing something.

Anyone had this problem with the nForce2? I'm not sure where to start with this thing. I'm running the latest drivers from nVidia's site.

This is XP, so I don't need to install WDM drivers. Anyway, reinstalling the drivers seems to have fixed the problem. Now though, the damn game I was playing (No One Lives Forever 2), keeps crashing while loading. Damn.

OMG, you should not have a big smiley after Win98SE, you should have a blue sad face :(

Windows 2000 is about 2000 times better than 98SE, and I'd be willing to bet gaming performance is significantly increased as well. XP vs 2000 I think is significantly less an issue, as they are almost the same, but Windows 95/98/ME sucked.

Do you have the game patched to the last version? If so then to fix the issue may require reinstalling the game, a real PITA but sometime the only way.

Nah, win98se is just as fast as win2k or XP. Depending on the game, one OS may have an insignificantly small advantage. Every comparison I have ever seen published on the web shows pretty much the same gaming performance across the board.
