Thanks for the link. Did you notice how the last PCI slot is shifted on the motherboard? I wonder how functional it'll be? However, I'm glad to see the nForce 2 boards hitting the streets. The price isn't too bad - for Asus. ;)

That last "PCI" slot is an ACR riser card slot.

Forgot to mention there are two boards at Mark One....I don't think this one has firewire. I wonder if the sound is the same on both of these?

Any comments on this vendor...................

the sound on the non-deluxe board is realtek, the deluxe gets the sound, firewire, and extra NIC.

btw, does this seem a little expensive? anand's blurb today seemed to say it should be very price competitve w/ kt400 chips.. seems like they could be maybe $10 cheaper (hey, every bit counts when the ram prices are goin up :(). So, where are the other manufacturers....

I can't fault the price considering its new to market. Especially with raid onboard which I hadn't seen in the reviews, dual nic, great sound, and firewire. Been looking for an alternative to VIA an plan to jump on this.

$147
Socket A, AMD Athlon/Duron/XP motherboard with 200/266MHz front side bus, Dual DDR 400 128-bit TwinBank support. 2-ATA 133 IDE built-in, 2 SERIAL ATA RAID. 8X AGP, 5 PCI, 3 DDR, 6 USB 2.0. NVIDIA® nForce2 SPP Chipset. Built in 6 channel audio. DUAL 10/100 LAN. 1394 Firewire. 3 year warranty

I get tired of sites calling it "onboard serial ata raid" or "serial raid" when really it's only a serial ata controller onboard as you cannot raid these two together (from what I've seen.) If I am wrong about this, please show me.

I am not familiar with the technology but here is what Asus has on the specs at their website:

Serial ATA (optional)
Silicon Image® Sil 3112A Controller with 2 ports
Support RAID 0/1

What say you?

I just wanted to re-emphasize that there are two versions of the Asus A7N8X, the "regular" and the Deluxe model.
The reviews I have seen all describe the deluxe version.

By reading the descriptions at Asus' site, it seems the "regular" version doesn't have the Nforce SoundStorm sound, the serial ATA raid controller, the second 3Com ethernet port, or the Firewire.

If you order, I would make sure you are getting the Deluxe. The price premium seems to be only around $16.
