Sorry if the above subject sounds like a thesis subject. :)

I'm wondering if you'll be able to use dual channel DDR266 with the Nforce2 on a 333FSB athlon and still get the benefit of added memory bandwidth for the processor and onboard graphics. I'm thinking of putting together a ghetto gaming box for 3d strategy games with an AthlonXP 2700+ and 2 sticks of DDR266 (Both 128 in size, leftovers from an era left over) for my friend to recycle his parts by feburary or march next year. Will the Nforce allow for such assynchronous operation?

i have no idea how much bandwidth is required for a minimum threshold, can a mx 420 handle wc3?

lets see... 4200 total - 2700 cpu = 1500 leftover for video... or reverse it to get 420 numbers... i suppose that might be ok.

What are you actually asking? If you were to install 2 x PC2100 DIMMs on your nForce2 board, that would equate to 4.2GB/s of total available bandwidth. Like ElFenix said, 2.7GB/s will be taken up by your 2700+ CPU, with the other 1.5GB/s going to your GPU, NIC, APU, etc. etc.

If you'd like to run your memory in sync, you'd obviously want some PC2700 (2 actually), which I suggest you get if you want better than GeF4 MX420 performance. If you really want the best performance, opt from two sticks of PC3200, either from Corsair, Mushkin or Samsung (the three best IMO). This way you've got 3.7GB/s of bandwidth instead of just 1.5GB/s that your GPU, NIC, APU, etc. can eat up.
