Nforce graphics drivers and monitor question

Just a few questions.

1. For the 7950 GX2 owners, have the latest released drivers improved the cards stability performance?

2 I have been considering a new monitor for some time. I still am using the same 19" Dell trinitron monitor that I got with my very first modern computer waaaayyyy back in 2000. Since then it has seen 3 different computers, 4 video cards, and is definatly starting to show her age (top right corner is a bit discolored).

I have been considering this monitor: Samsung 20 inch LCD

For those that may have this monitor, or for those that can deciper LCD specs, how will this stack up to my venerable CRT? From everything that I have read, there is little to no ghosting or artifacting, but I have never really seen an LCD that I thought reproduced the visuals as my monitor did. Opinions? Suggestiongs?

Id rather stay away from widescreen; I prefer my standard monitor ratios.

thanks for the help!

If your monitor is working fine then I would not recommend ditching it for an LCD. LCDs are generally inferior for gaming to CRTs for a range of reasons.

Especially not that samsung. Terrible view angles and color distorsion...If you must get an LCD due to your tube failing only look at IPS displays. In fact only one monitor will satisfy you NEC 20WMGX2 and it's widescreen. The other good one is LG L2000C a fast overdriven IPS in 4:3 (1600x1200) You got the card for it, for now. Keep in mind you're stuck at that resolution.

Here is the monitor your thinking about getting:roll:

I have seen the future and the future is Widescreen. Even Dell is saying so...

The SAMSUNG 215TW is well-rated, but persists in remaining too expensive. Its price will have to drop soon, as a flurry of lower-priced 22-inch monitors are starting to appear.

We are inexorably moving towards a 24-inch 1920x1200 standard, as this is the resolution needed to display full-HD video.

OK, some quick questions:
1. Does BF2 support widescreen? I know BF2142 is coming, but I got a gut feeling BF2 is gonna be around a LONG time. Plus I cant part with my MiG-29's! =)

2. When do you guys predict that these prices will start to come down for these monitors? For that much I could just deal with my CRT and get a 7950 GX2 sli set up! hehe

3. What do you all believe are the 3 most essential specs when judging an LCD for the sole purpose of gaming, and what are the numbers for those specs that I should be looking for ?

BF2 does not support w/s but it's tweakble, go to widescreen gaming forum to get the tweak in more detail

LCD monitors prices are way down already with the exceptions of the some higher performance models.

1) size matters, bigger is better 2) response time 3) contrast ratio

I hoped you didn't miss this LCD's FAQ 's sticky

I may have missed it. thanks for the info. BTW, if youhave an LCD thats native 1280x1024 and try and run it at say 1600x1200, what will happen and how will it look? Im assuming that it doesnt act like a CRT does when you crank the resolution.

You can't run an LCD at a higher resolution than its native one because the native corresponds to the physical amount of pixels it has.

I wish there were better choices @ 1600x1200 for LCDs :(

I have that 204B you linked to, & i also cannot really recommend it.

If you don't care too much about viewing angles or graphics quality, it's pretty okay.

But overall, it's not great.

WAIT right here ..... IF you are looking for a good gaming monitor don't even think about buying one with a low respons time.
The best option on the market right now are the xtreme versions of Viewsonic. the 19inch vx922 has 2ms response time with native resolution of 1280x1024 (and believe me that's more that enough for gaming). I have 2 of these babies and they look awsome. I play games with 250 fps or above and I see no visual artifacts whatsoever (I have the 7950gx2 as well). I think this is the best option on the market so far (price wise as well)
