Ok now there is a recapitulation of infos that needs to be done.

Just for those who don't know, there is a problem with the nForce platform dealing with audio output with analog sound systems with 4+ speakers. The problem is with that the rear channel output doesn't work and those (like me... dammit!) who spit out a little more cash for 4.1 systems or something similar without going digital were pretty much ****ed up in the... well you know!

There are numerous threads in the Anandtech forums, the MSI forums and some misc places but there must still be cases that those threads don't help since well... I'm still stuck with an extremely expensive 2 speakers sound system.

From what I gathered in the numerous threads about the problems is that there IS a way to solve the problem.

This way is by the CNR card that is usually (not always tough but most nForce-based boards do now) bundled with the system that allows for an additional 4 channels audio output.

The funny thing is that most advices go by :

1. Install the CNR card.
2. Install the newest motherboard drivers.
3. You're set.

With the additional step (at least on my side of things) :
4. Yeah right!

I'll describe my situation first and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in this extremely poor support from everyone concerned with the problem (mainly for nvidia for not providing a damn 2nd output on-board! and the board vendors (mine is MSI) for not saying a damn thing about the CNR card except that it's optional.

I just got the system with the following specs :

Athlon XP
MSI K7N420 Pro (with the 420D)
Logitech Z-560 4.1

What I should be able to do is plug the front input of the speakers in the normal audio output of the board and the rear input in the output of the (optional) CNR card.

Well the thing is I have the CNR card, as much installed as it can get...

I updated my BIOS.

I checked the jumper on the motherboard (there IS a jumper on the motherboard that must be shorted in order to get more than a 2 speakers output, check your MB manuam) and it's properly shorted for 2+ channels out.

And I still get a big damn nothing from the CNR card.

No matter the advice on the matter I find it's always the same thing as above and it does nothing to help me.

So is there anyone in here who knows exactly what the issue here?

No suppositions or experience since we all know that one pc from another, no matter how many componants are the same, you get totally different results. I (we... at least I hope I'm not the only one still stuck with a very very expensive 2-speakers system) a tangible answer and details about the CNR (I don't even know if it's installed on my system since I don't know the actual driver name of the damn card).

Of course there are big chances that I'm alone with this problem, everyone else having found a way to make it work, since it's one of the things I'm so damn good at! But still any information or details about how this problem can be solved.
