I was wondering if the 680i can support 4GB of ram in 2 x 2GB?

I'm asking because I'm having problems with my new computer and it's related to the memory(or the motherboard). All the tests and reviews I see on Anandtech or Firingsquad for example always use 4 x 1GB or ram for 4GB, not 2 x 2GB like I have. Not just that but my motherboard manual says it support 256MB, 512MB and 1GB Dimm, but nothing on 2GB Dimm.

The mobo is an XFX 680i and the ram is OCZ 2 x 2GB kit DDR2 800 CL5-4-4-15.

I'm running two mismatched pairs of OCZ 2GB sticks and it's mostly running fine, if not all that fast(one of my kits sucks and won't do DDR2-800 reliably)

I used a evga 680i with 4x1 OCZ plats 800 4-4-4-15 sticks. After adjusting voltage in bios and loosening up the timings it booted and did fine till about 3.2ish when it started to need more volts. I was never able to run at the listed timings and have the same issue now that those sticks are in a IP-35E. I am stable at 3.4 with the sticks running at 5 5 5 15 but dropping any lower at 2.0 volts doesnt boot.

Id get 2x2, your motherboard will run the cooler for it.

The supertalent 800s for 35ish is a good deal in the Hot deals section for 2 gig sticks

Make sure your voltage for the memory is 2.1v that is the recommended "minimum" voltage for OCz. I have had a couple 680i boards and all have worked fine with OCZ memory without changing the voltage, so i don't know what the deal is with yours. Anyways, yeah, kick up the Mem voltage to 2.1 and see what happens. Shouldn't be any conflicts with 2 gb sticks, i have used a few with the 680i's with no problem.

The vdimm is at 2.1V so it's not the problem. I also have problem with my SLI 8800 GTs, that's why I'm beginning to suspect the mobo. I ran the latest version of Prime95 for 64bit and multi core (p64v255). The first two test(the one that only test the cpu and the "heat" test) run flawlessly for at least 5 hours but the "Blend" test that's supposed to test a lot of memory fails after 0.4 sec :(.

Anyone knows if there's a way to specifically test the mobo?

Does anyone knows where I can find the LED POST code for 680i mobo? XFX manual or web site doesn't say a thing about this.

I had 4x 2GB of RAM in my eVGA 680i, which is another reference board.

And actually, it's listed on the XFX website as supporting up to 8GB of RAM.
