currently have a nforce 430 board (Asus A8N-VM CSM) with vista business installed. I have 4 harddrives, 3 internal and 1 external. Of the 3 internal drives 1 is ata and the other 2 are sata. Of the 2 sata drives (which i use for storage) one is gen 1 the other is gen 2. I am using the lates nforce 15 chipset drivers for vista 32bit.
The problem is that the sata controller shows up in device manager as being installed but doesn't show anything connected to it. Now under disk drives my sata drives show up but as scsi drives with microsoft drivers dated 6/2006.
I was sucessfull once in manually updating the driver by uninstalling the drives themselves, but suffered from severe system slow down, excessive harddrive activity. It seemed the gen 2 drive installed find onto the sata controller but the gen 1 drive was inacessible and windows wanted to format it which i offcourse cancelled. The only way i was able to recover it was with a system restore.
Anyone know how to get the sata driver installed properly without the drive error, cause it seems when u try and install with just the setup.exe it won't even give you the sata ide driver as an option, and if you try to update the driver manually under the disk drive tab in device manager it either say it's not compatible or u have the newest driver available.
I really didn't have great sata support on xp so i guess nvidia wouldn't make it any better for vista.
Do you think that if i unplugged the sata connectors from the mother board and the reboot and plug them back in they might actually install to the sata controller?
TIA
