Nforce 4 setup: 2 x 6600gt SLI or 1x 6800gt?

Hi all,

I'm going to hold off for a nforce4 sli setup now. Processor undecided. My question is a simple one I hope. If you are putting the above mentioned system together what do you do.

SLI 2 x 6600gt's blowing $400 or so on videocards or spend same amount on 1 x 6800gt or platinum? I want kickass performance and im thinking people will say go for the SLI 6600gt setup. But what will I loose out by going with a lower end card?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

James

1 6800 gt is a far smarter buy. if you get 2 6600 gt's now, that's pretty dumb since it doesnt really perform any better hten a single 6800 gt and it also has no room for upgrades in the future.

i'd agree with one 6800GT. the performance is almost equal with 2x 6600GT's, but it A), leave one slot open for future upgrades, and B), the 6800GT outperforms the dual 6600GT's at higher resolutions

The only advantage to going SLI 6600GTs right now is you will save yourself ~$100(which doesn't seem to click in most people's heads). The single 6800GT overall is faster, and it will leave you future upgrade potential that isn't there with 2x6600GTs- it just has a premium over dual 6600GTs right now.

If you are going to be saving for a while, you may want to also look into the ATI X800 XL. It can rival the 6800gt in many games but it said to have an MSRP of only $300. It is supposed to be released soon, but it may be a while before the card gets into circulation. Also, since it is an ATI card, you wouldn't be able to SLI them, ATI may come out with their own SLI board in the next couple months...

one 6800 ulltra is quite equal with the best sli performance, GT is ehhh and 6600 is horrible no matter if its 1 2 3 4 5 6 of them. ;-)
