NForce 4 Passive Chipset Cooler

What is a good replacement for a noisy NForce 4 chipset? It's for an MSI Neo4-F, nforce 4 vanilla motherboard.

While i like the NB47, you might have troubles if the chipset is located near the graphics card. Also, im not sure how hot the nforce4 runs.

what temps do you get with the NB47 on your A8N-Sli deluxe? I'm looking to replace the cooler on my A8N-E. Also, what kind of case/airflow do you have around that cooler?

There's no way to know the temps unless you have a thermal probe. I'm running an NB47J on my A8N-E in a Sonata II. It runs hot, but 100% stable. Take a look at the images in my sig.

anyone ever used one of those on an MSI Neo4 Platinum? I know the Video card comes REALLY close the active cooler on there now.

If you have a 6600GT, it might just fit. If a 6800GT you have, some fins can be broken off to make it fit, people do it all the time.

some chaintech vnf4 ultras even came with passive cooling. i ordered a zalman 47 myself, hopefully it does the trick. i have an asus a8n-e right now, the fan is so annoying i just unplugged it. sure the heatsink is getting flaming hot but i have had no lockups as of yet even playing games. though i do think if i o/ced it probably would. hopefuly the zalman comes soon and itll do the trick.

Someone used a non-contact IR gun to take a temp reading of their Zalman. What was it, in the 60°C area? Gerbil, you remember?

I'm using a Thermalright NB-1 with the fan running at 7 volts (Antec fan-only line works too). It's pretty good. My dripping faucet easily out-noises it 😛

I also like the idea ProviaFan is looking into, screwing a very quiet fan onto the side of the Zalman (maybe low-volting it too?).

60 c doesnt sound too bad. chipsets tend to have a very high temp tolerance. if you think about it a geforce 6600gt even in the temp monitor the shutdown voltage is like 127c.

im sure my nf4ultra with the stock fan on it with fan unplugged is running like 70c.

i need something for my nForce4 Ultra on my lanparty ultra-d i have a powercolor x800xl and it covers partially the nb hsf. any good suggestions on something quieter or even passive
