Hi,
I have the Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe with an IBM Deskstar 'Deathstar' 60GB as Master, a Western Digital 160GB Drive as Slave, a 80 GB Maxtor Drive as a SATA drive, a Creative CD5220-F CDROM drive as Secondary Master and a Samsung CDRW/DVD SM-308B drive as Secondary Slave. Well, I loaded the IDE drivers from the nForce CD and everytime I start windows, the loading bar hangs for a bit, but then it goes on. This makes boot up even longer. Has anyone else had these issues?
Well, I decided to see what was causing that delay. So I removed the deathstar and put the 160GB drive as a Master and then put XP prof on that. Still did the same thing...Ok now im thinking its not either master drive. Of course the SATA is disconnected but that doesnt matter. So I look at the Secondary IDE channel. I pull the cable from the mobo socket and it works fine booting up! So im now down to a bad cable, a bad drive or bad drives. So I eventually figure out that w/out the Creative drive plugged in, it boots fine and fast, but w/ it plugged in, the system delays while booting (the windows scrollling bar).
My problem is, has anyone else had these issues? Is it a Creative drive thing? Can the drive be bad? If i get a new drive, will this delaying go away? or what? I just wanna make sure becuase I wanna get the NEC DVD burner ($50) and a cheap CDROM (so i dont use always use the DVD burner for cheap stuff..)
