Nforce 4 hype?/two birds, one stone

I was going to purchase the nessicary components to make a skt 939 system, ie asus a8v delux and such. Probaly a geforce 6800 limited edition or something else that's kinda beefy. Anywho.. Should i purchase that, or wait till the nforce 4 sli pans out. Then my concern shifts: If i can play latest games maxed out, with one video card, why would i need another, other to suck dry the town's generator? and also, Sience my monitor wont go above 1024x768, Am i being marketed hype for lots of cash? I have had some urges to go on new egg for the A642800+/nf3 250 combo for 183, and soup up what 80ish i'd save in mobo/cpu. so boiling this down: is it worth it? and why/why not?
One thing entered my mind. I'm probally going to be using this setup until nearly 2007, so my question is this: do i suck it up, get the nf4-sli now and have a decent rig for a bit, or do i get a regular nf3 now, a cheap combo and kick my self later for not getting sli and a 21" monitor. I am but a meager student.
And number two. I Recentley was given a ecs K7mm+ 3.1 mobo with an athlon xp 2000+ (not sure what stepping it is or if the thing is a tbred/palminino). now her's the delimma. Stuck in a gfx card, memory, and situated it in my case, plugged it in and tried to boot up. The psu worked, as it always dose with my celly, and, odly enough so did the vga cooler and the cpu heatsink. The processor was getting toasty within seconds, so i deduced that it could not be that, as the athlon works. I tried to boot. Nothing. The power for everything went on, but the mobo wouldnt boot. I tried all 3 ways of video: agp, pci and integreted and nothing, so i'm stumped. what do i do?
Please help.

If your monitor wont go above 1024x768 then SLI mobo shouldnt concern you ;)
It is definitely not budget system.
SLI mobo will cost around $200 and nf4 ULTRA around $150 when prices settle down.
I would suggest nf4 Ultra + amd 64 3000 + geforce 6600 GT, but of course it cant
beat pricewise the bargain you found on new egg.

The A64 2800+, nf3-250, and 6800 will play all games at acceptable resolutions with plenty of speed. But no-one can deny the coolness factor of SLI. The question really is, How cool do you want to be?

Meh, I dont wanna be super cool, just good enough to go a few years without noticable slowdowns. but prettmuch i want to just oc the heck outta the athlons. Anyone know how well the antec true blue 400 works in this situation? but a monitor should be larger shortly ie next week to a 21 or 19".

this cannot be done. even if you went with the highest end solution money can buy in 2 or 3 years your comp would suck.

the best thing you can do to make your PC last is ensure a good upgrade path. Go nforce4 Ultra, get a decent video card (maybe a 6600GT) and CPU (3000+ or 3200+), and then, in a year or 2, get a new video card and dual core CPU. If you go with nforce3, it will be pretty hard to accomplish this.

then again its prolly better to just buy stuff use it two years and then buy all new stuff cuz they nf4 mobo will not be competetive in 2 years i would think. and motherboards arent that expensive anyway.

lol this reminds me of an add i saw waay back when i upgraded to my celly. "2.2ghz for 2002" 2999 for a gateway, 19" crt's 1 gb raumbus, a 2.2 northwood, and a radeon 8500.. Sure the thing could play games but that's what was going around. hehe and my parents get the tulatain celly.
