Nforce 4 - ATI RX480, etc..etc...

So what do you do ?

In my opinion ATI's solution (see AT review a few days ago) looks like a very solid and nice competitor to NF4.
With NF4 i am still very hesitant to purchase once i see 'am available - mainly because i do NOT know whether the first "real" boards will be revision 3 or the borken ones.

I think if the first boards are rev 2 i might jump for the ATI boards since i am soooooooooo fed up with waiting....arghhh...

BUT - then, the irony:

Once the boards are available (people say as soon as next week)....what gfxcard do you plug in ??? NV45 and R480 are announced and said out probably mid december, all the other pci-ex cards (based on 6800, X800) are either not available or extremely overprized.

Result: I get the board...and still have to wait another month for pci-e card for it.

Going insane here 🙂

You're actually counting on the R480/NV45 cards to be on the shelf in a few weeks? :Q

Just buy the best card you can get your hands on now if you're looking for high-end.

NF4 hasn't been reviewed yet. We have really no solid estimate on retail availability.

Basically I'm saying to buy stuff now if you need a computer. 🙂

The Nvidia board has a reputation that comes along with it. It comes from a long line of INCREDIBLE boards. I would go Nforce 4 simply because of the enormous features set but has on par performance with the ATI chipset. Remember neither of these boards have retail boards only reference so we dont really have an accurate representation of what all they can do.

Nvidia isn't going to sell the REV 1 and 2 boards. Cmon now... they did screw up with the Video Processor but im not sure they are too anxious to repeat it. Also all that does is support 1000HT AFAIK.

Just sit back and wait... you can manage 🙂
