I was just wondering if anyone knows when these boards will start to show up on shelves in the stores? I was going to get an athlon 64 just recently with an MSI board but thought maybe I should wait for these new boards if they are coming out soon. Should I wait for the nforce 3 boards or just go with the MSI?

Word around is very soon & @ this point in time I'd wait. There's already a review on MSI's nForce3 250 board among many others so I assume it'll hit retail real soon. Although A64's based on socket 939 will likely be in limited availability.

I see Tom's has a review of the MSI K8N NEO. This looks like a good board but they aren't advertising them anywhere yet. With the problems I'm having with my ASUS K8V board I'm going to buy one of these when they become available.

I really like the looks of the MSI K8N board. The CPU is more towards the middle of the board like the BTX form factor instead of right under the power supply which to me would be a better place for it in my case because of the rear exhaust fan, this would put it right in the path of airflow through my case.

Do you think we will see any multiprocessor boards? I know its possible but is there a big enough market for any of the manufactureres to make one?

Not sure about the multiprocessor motherboards, haven't heard anything about them. As for the nforce3 250 I decided that I will wait a week or so and then if its not out then I'll probably go with the MSI K8T. I got to get something soon though because my current motherboard is starting to have problems.

I've been waiting for the NF3 250 boards since December. I am surprised at how long it has taken since these were first announced.

I may pick up a socket 754 nForce 3 250 board if there is one that has a nice range of cpu and dimm voltages. I thought about waiting for the socket 939 versions (coming soon?), but then I realized that I will wait for those boards with pci-e and all the other next gen goodies. That's not likely to happen anytime soon, and when it does it will mean new video card, new memory, and maybe new psu/case. Whew. So, socket 754 is a cozy place to be for now.

Yeah, look when BTX was announced. I don't see that form factor in any mainstream boards yet. That was almost a year ago wasn't it? Socket 939 is looking like this summer but you can bet they will not be cheap. I think socket 754 is the way to go for now.

Good find, must be a new page as it doesn't seem to be completed e.g. missing pics.

MSI K8N Neo Platinum

That stinks.... I wanted to build my first Athlon64 system based on the K8N and was hoping to do it by the end of this month... :brokenheart:

If I were you I'd wait just a month more to see the chipsets coming out from SIS / ATI / VIA... some of them look pretty interesting (VIA dual support agp & pci-e and ddr & ddr2).. When these come out they may help drop the prices of the first Nforce products we see?

Just my opinion :)

At this point I am considering building a machine with a cheap Athlon64 motherboard and then swapping it out for a nice NForce 250 MB once they have been on the market for a while and we find out what performs the best. Doing this will also give an opportunity to see how the new Via K8T800 Pro fairs against the NForce 250.... himmm, I think I might have just talked myself into a new purchase.

There is a review of MSI's nforce3 250 board here:

http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjA3

It didn't seem all that much faster then the boards currently available. They also didnt seem to get that impressive overclocks either even with the agp lock. So not sure if its worth it to invest in them right away. Also I didnt know that via came out with a new chipset version. Are there any boards currently on the market using the K8T800 Pro?

I've got to agree completely with you, cowdog. People say they want to wait for 939 boards for futureproofing, but down the road a few years, you'll just end up having to buy all the next gen stuff anyway, so might as well stick with 754 for now =)

just a complete guess, but i dont think we'll see any major benefit from 939, most likely it will be the like the difference between the a64 3000 and 3200.... just my guess

ya, you want to wait for the nforce 3 -250, be kinda stupid getting the nforce 3 150. the nfoce 3 -250 has dual channel capabilites, should be able to lock the pci/agp bus. overclocking abilities.

The nForce3 250 will not have dual channel capabilities on the Socket 754 platofrm, since the Socket 754 A64's do not support a dual channel memory controller. This will change with the Socket 939 A64's.
