Question for you guys. I am planning to get one of the Nforce 2 ultra 400 with Dual Channel DDR slots.

Question is can I only use 1 stick of memory or do I have to buy 2 stick of exactly the same memory for this motherboard to boot up. This is my spare PC and I only have a stick of 512mb pc2700.

Thanks.

You need two sticks,so just buy another stick of 512Mb PC2700 ram.

To boot up, you only need 1 stick of ram but it will only operate in Single Channel mode. To utilise Dual Channel, then you will need 2 sticks of RAM.

Yep that`s correct,I was referring to the Dual memory part in my original post.

Also if you do go Dual channel make sure you put the two sticks of ram in the right slots,on my DFI NF2 ultra its the blue slots, but check your manual if you`re not sure.

1 stick will be fine and the performance gains from dual channel when the IGP video isn't involved aren't more than 5% tops in most usage so don't sweat it for now :) The upside is the potential for issues resulting from dual channel are avoided.

Thanks for everyones input.
Since this will be a spare machine, I am just going to put in a 512mb for now. When I get some funds, I'll get another one.
