nForce 2 problem with Ati 9600?

My friend put together a new computer today, and since I know more then him he had to ask for my help. After I put the heatsink on the RIGHT way, I installed XP. This system has an Asus A7N8X-X with 512MB PC2100 (Crucial). He has a Sapphire (ew) 9600 card (not pro).

Well the problem is, I install the latest Ati drivers, and restart the PC, and once it gets passed the loading XP screen, it just turns black, and remains black. We can not get a picture on the scree or get windows to load out of safe mode. Whats the problem? I don't know much about software troubleshooting. Thanks.

I posted this in another thread today but it looks like you might have missed it. I got this from an nForce forum, it might work for you, too. Here goes:

1. Uninstall all the ATI software. All of it. Don't reboot.
2. Run Driver Cleaner. Don't reboot.
3. Run Cab Cleaner. Reboot.
4. On boot, cancel hardware detection. Install the ATI drivers. Don't reboot.
5. Go into Services (Administrative Tools) and set ATI SMART and ATI Hotkey Poller to Disabled. Reboot.
6. Install ATI Control Panel. Don't reboot.
7. Go back into Services and set ATI SMART and ATI Hotkey Poller to Automatic. Reboot.

On the last reboot, the screen may flicker a bit while the ATI SMART service tries to determine the best configuration for your card. This is normal. At this point, every ATI card I have installed in my computer in the past 6 months has worked. As others have said, you might have to turn off Fast Writes. It's a hit and miss thing. It works for some and not others. But you will hardly miss it if you have to turn it off.

Good luck.

I wonder what the natural problem is? Did you try the Catalyst 3.5 drivers by any chance? I think I used the 3.5s when I tried out a 9600 Pro and I experienced no problems.
