Nforce 2 drivers - if you have 2.41 you must update to 2.42!

This is really not an update as nothing is the drivers package was changed except removing the IDE drivers. If you already have 2.41 drivers installed, installing 2.42 will not update or fix anything.

hi,
installing the 2.42 over my 2.41 install did NOT remove the nvidia ide sw driver so there was no noticeable difference for me. i did have to totally reformat and rebuild my machine after the 2.41 install though, grrrr.
this is on win2k pro sp3.

You should edit the original post with links to the drivers for ALL versions of windows. Almost installed the XP ones on my Win2k Pro machine!

Ok it would probably have told me it couldn't do it, but I still wasted a little time 😛.

How do I know if MSI LiveUpdate 2 installed the latest Dets? I can't find a Det package version number anywhere. Also, I see a Microsoft driver listed in Device Manager for my IDE controller...good, right? The NVIDIA-provided drivers installed for other devices have their own version numbers, unrelated to the Detonator package.

hope it's a different story with XP Home. If this keeps up I will be very upset with Nvidia

It's not different with XP drivers. Installing 2.42 will NOT remove the nVidia IDE drivers. 2.42 simply does not include the IDE drivers. You should edit the topic title as it's plainly wrong. Updating to 2.42 from 2.41 won't do anything. It's not even a fix as it doesn't fix anything.

Contro Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manger->IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers->nVidia Controllers->righ-click to go to Properties->Driver->Look at the Driver Version

If the version is 5.10.2600.0340, you have the 2.41, if it's 5.10.2600.0307, you have 2.03 drivers.

It seems nVidia have withdrawn the 2.42 drivers as well. Maybe the problems were not just confined to the IDE drivers.

all of em 2.4x are glitchy. Thats why nVidia went back to 2.03, which are gay, but they at least work. Dang, when these FX vs. Radeon wars began, nVidia can't do nothin right.
