In Anandtech's most recent review, "Soltek NV400-L64: Purple, Practical, AND Performance!", Wesley Fink said:

Quote:
"The name that was mentioned wherever we saw reports of the nForce2 400 chipset was Soltek, a name many of you may not know. We do not know of anyone (other than Soltek) who is currently producing a single-channel nForce2 board, but I?m sure our readers will help us out with any information available in the marketplace. Soltek was kind enough to provide AnandTech with their NV400-L64 motherboard, which was shipped to us from Taiwan."

answer:

ASUS A7N8X-X

Havent checked the rest of the sites, but there are already several solutions from MSI and ABIT using this chipset, too.

Gigabyte also has two models: GA-7N400E and GA-7N400E-L, the latter of the two featuring onboard LAN. However, like ASUS, Abit, and MSI, they might not be on the market yet. So send away for nforce2 400 boards from these companies Wesley. I'm looking forward to more reviews of this chipset.

As an aditional note, I'd like to point some differences between this review and AMDmb.com's, in who's test results we can see the Soltek board actually getting in 8 out of 10 benchmarks better performance than the ASUS A7N8X... though I must say I trust more AT's review system.

Looks like while VIA tried to make an nForce Ultra 400 killer, nVidia turned back and made a KT600 killer... hehehehe...

The Asus A7N8X-X is on the market, I saw it yesterday at the store. The dude beside me purchased it.

Its basicly the same than A7N8X, except it is only single chaneled.

Great buy, nonetheless. I have read in some other forums that there is a better OCability in these single chanel beauties.

I think the asus board's various overclocking options are more limited than the soltek's from what I've read.

Disagree. A7N8X-X's bios is as complete as the non-X versions of the boards.

I think the vcore is limited to 1.85 and I know someone who had his chip up to 2 (I have no idea why he was happy but whatever) on an a7n8x deluxe. Was he modding his board? I could ask him next time I see him but I don't think he was. Also I read a review this morning at another forum which linked to an australian review which didn't seem happy with the voltage options across the board (so to speak). So I'm kind of thinking the options may be there but not to the same degree? If I'm wrong let me know - I would recommend this board to some asus-head kid that I know.

Also I know my a7v8x-x does NOT have the options the a7v8x does in terms of overclocking but it seemed so at first. I had to contact ASUS to find out they were not adjustable.

It should be perfect for overclocking. Thanks to the single channel arquitecture, less traces are needed for memory paths, hence, less stressed and with much more chance to work at higher levels, like prooved in AT's test, which showed both memory modules running at highest timings with no problem at all. Same goes for ASUS.

Geez, poor VIA, they're still a great company just nVidia was a little more innovative this time. Now, looks like nVidia got all the bases covered and most of the outfield. And sheesh, these boards should be very promising... who wouldn't want a cheap board that can perform on par (close to) with it's older sibling?

The only thing I'm debating about between getting the Asus A7N8X-X and A7N8X-DX is the MCP-T chip. I'm thinking if it's worth the extra money for a SoundStorm chip. I only have a Fortisimmo 2 and a Live! at my disposal.

IMO the a7n8x-x is a better board bcause it has 3 dimms with up to 3gb of space... but then again I wish there was a comparison of the two because i wonder how fast the a7n8x-x really is

I worked with an A7N8X-X briefly before sending it to someone. It felt very fast, and the onboard audio worked great in UT2003 Demo. I'm pretty sure I would never notice the difference between it an an A7N8X-Deluxe until I went looking to plug in a joystick or a Firewire device (it has no Firewire due to the MCP southbridge, and no gameport on the board or on a PCI bracket either, although it's a $10 option at Newegg). It appears to have pretty much the same PCB as the standard A7N8X, and the BIOS options were all there, although I didn't explore the question of voltage ranges or anything.
