I got an Abit Nv7m with only one 256mb ddr imm. I would like to get advantage of the nforce 128 bit memory bus by adding another 256mb dimm. The problem is does the memory have to be identical?? Same pcb manufacturer ?? Or can it be different memory manufacturers as long as it is the same size?? My first Dimm is an 256 Mwave generic with Nanya chips.

It is recommended that they be the same, but there is no specific reason for this that I know of other than less chance of problems.

I am running on identical sticks, so I can't speak from experience, but I know others have used different types without a problem.

No they don't have be even the same make, either.
I have one of these boards to play. Very very stable board.
The ABit NV7m has vertually no overclocking options at all.
That is it's weakest link.
