There has been a lot of talk about the patriots being a dynasty (assuming they win the upcoming superbowl) in comparison to the dallas cowboys (widely considered the 'last dynasty'). There's a debate going on in a forum i frequent whether tom brady is a better quarterback than troy aikman. I'd have to go with tom brady and his numbers back it up:

Aikman vs Brady fist 4 years of Starting

Aikman(1989,90,91,92)
54 Games 28 wins ,26 losses, 3-0 in the playoffs, 1 Div title, 1 conf title, 1 SB Title, 1 SB MVP

920/1528
10527 YDS
54 TDS
60 Int
76.38 Rating

Brady(2001,02,03,04)
62 games 48 wins, 14 losses, 8-0 in the playoffs, 3 Div titles, 3 Conf Titles, 2 SB Titles, 2 SB MVP(yes I agree he shouldnt have one the first MVP)

1242/2015
13925 Yds
97 TD's
52 Int's
87.54 Rating

As you can see, aikman actually throws MORE interceptions in that 4 year period than touchdowns, has a much lower qb rating, fewer yards, fewer completions, lower competion percentage, and he has only 1 superbowl win whereas brady has 2 (going on 3).

Can't compare them that way. Brady was on much much much much better teams first two years.

Aikman was great back in the day and although I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan i would have to pick Brady as well. The guy is just incredible.

Aikman was drafted first overall by a 1-15 Dallas Cowboys team. that's a tough situation to be thrown into as a rookie.

aikman had 1 good receiver and decent tight ends. of course he did have Emmitt (who according to most Ater, wasn't that good a running back anyway).

Brady had a consistent run game (with a very good run game this season), 3 very good wr (tho not as good as Aikmans 1 receiver) and decent tight ends. i'd say Offensive lines were about the same. Defenses, NE defenses have been better.

overall, i'd take aikman over brady, altho brady is obviously a pretty good qb.

Well, the pats were a bottom feeder the year before brady started and had his superbowl run... i think they were 5-11.

Woh wait a minute now, when brady won his first and second superbowl, the pats had a really sh1tty run game. Our leading rusher (antwain smith) had only 700 some odd rushing yards and was like a 3.4 yards per carry rusher. Our running game was one of the worst! Brady had to pretty much carry the whole offense. This year, we have corey dillon of course, but brady proved he could win without a good running game.

The offensive line, i dunno about, but defense i think NE had a somewhat better D. And michael irvin was a better receiver than what the pats have good... the pats have several good 2nd tier receivers, but not the best.

to hear most people talk about it, Emmitt smith wasn't a very good running back right?

regardless, even if dallas had the better running game (except this season where NE had at least as good a running game), NE clearly had the better WR corp. Michael Irvin is arguably better than any of the various WR's NE starts, but the 3 best NE WR are better than all the other WR's Dallas had.

besides, we are talking Aikmans first 4 seasons with Dallas right?
