As an American and a HUGE NFL fan, this saddens me. I am a really big fan of simulation sports. Games like Madden, NHL 2kwhatever, NBA 2kwhatever, MLB etc... very fun games. I often times get into the simulation/manager mode in those games. They are fun, but after a season or two I realize just how flawed and messed up their systems are.

Even the ones that are better, they are for sports like hockey or basketball, fun but ultimately not the NFL.

Sega makes a PC game called Football Manager (a soccer game) and it is absolutely fantastic. VERY in depth mode. Creating formations, buying/trading/selling players, managing prospects, stats, etc etc... all very very very well done. Which is an understatement. I've been playing this game a bit and I really like it, but ultimately soccer is just very simple. The stats are not much fun to look at. It's not like where you have a variety of different stats for different positions like in the NFL.

I can only imagine how awesome of a game Sega could make if they had the opportunity to make one for the NFL and it seriously saddens me. Anyone else ever have this thought? As popular as the NFL is, I can only imagine how popular this game would be. Or, god forbid, Madden get their shit together and get a really good quality franchise mode, but we are more likely to have Sega get rights to NFL and build one themselves.

It was ok, but not great. It was missing a LOT of elements that make Football Manager so awesome.

The problem with the Football Manager games is that there are way too many rags-to-riches stories associated with it. Unless the entire playerbase is exaggerating their accomplishments, it seems that EVERYONE has managed to get some no-name minnows up from the depths of the English lower leagues to the glory of the Champions League. Heck, I know I've done it with a few teams myself over the years when I used to play them.

It's just a bit too much of a coincidence that that many people are fantastic managers. It's a shame as I used to enjoy playing them until I found that out.

Yea I guess the game is a bit to easy, even if it takes a long time to do. A difficulty level slider would be an easy fix for that though.

How come there isn't one? I remember in elementary school several of my football (what you call soccer..) crazed friends where obsessed with Football manager, championship manager, North-Wales B-team manager, etc. on the Amiga. These games have been around for decades, but there's not one for american football?!

As an Englishman, I'm very happy that there are plenty of Football Manager type games which I have been playing since my early computer days.

I know nothing about American Football so cannot comment as to why there isn't one. Maybe it's too small a niche? Not a popular worldwide sport?

Um, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't anybody remember the fact that EA basically OWNS the exclusive license to the NFL and NFLPA, and has for the past several years?

Which means, if you want a NFL licensed sim, it would have to be made by EA. And why would they bother when Madden just continues raking in the $$$ with very few updates?

Until that "exclusive deal" expires (if it does), football videogames will consist of: Madden tweaked every year, NCAA Football tweaked every year, and whatever "arcadey", unlicensed game the competition can put out, like Back Breaker.

Hines Ward was just released by the Steelers. We need a new Madden game now.

Its because American's are greedy bastards and the NFL is the worst of the bunch. They demand way too much money to license their "brand" so thats why so many football video games got their plugs pulled. Somehow they have even figured out a way to prevent games like 'Tecmo Bowl' from being made even though the team names are completely different. Its retarded.

Its kind of like how so many racing games don't have Ferrari because Ferrari is retarded and won't let you license their "brand" so a racing game puts a car into the game that is obviously a Ferrari, but they call it something else. Then they get sued by Ferrari, they win, and then the company goes out of business or has to get sold to EA. This actually happened but I can't remember to who. I know that the 'Ridge Racer' franchise in the Sega days got sued and lost but I don't think Namco went out of business from it, they just stopped making the Ridge Racer games

I am english, and i have been playing FM for some years, i find the games very enjoyable and in depth (more so than fifa)... when i started to have an interest in the NFL, i played madden and enjoyed it, but i agree that the franchise mode is limited in terms of options available to the player... i believe that the market for a NFL version of FM is not a niche market, especially when considering the popularity of fantasy football, in which stats are very much needed and utilised, and this would be a game (if made properly) that any fantasy football player would buy and enjoy.

The problem with an American Football Manager is the NFL license is exclusive to EA right now. This is sad because I think that game would do well. This game wouldn't do well without the real teams and such.
