IMO, this is the most ridiculous thing ever. How can you force a team to interview somebody? Do they really think that by forcing them to interview minority candidates they'll increase the number of minority coaches? Teams will still hire whoever they want, they'll conduct a number of "fake" interviews to follow the rules.

Or how about teams that already decided who their next coach would be, for example Lions last year. They'd have to interview a minority coach just to adhere to this rule. Now if you were that coach, how would you feel, knowing this interview means nothing and you won't get that job.

I agree 100%. The rule is stupid. Interview the guy you want to coach your team, not the guy who has the right color skin just to appease the NFL suits. :disgust:

It's ridiculous. Just a PR move by the NFL to make everyone feel better. You hire the better man for the job, who gives a damn what color he is.

Yep. It's dumb. If you are a good coach, then you will get the job (Dungy, Edwards, Lewis, etc.)

It's CYA by the NFL. I think they are aware that there is a large disparity between the ethnicity of the players and coaches, which makes the NFL a target, regardless of the reasons for the situation. I doubt they expect it will directly lead to a particular minority getting more coaches hired. I'll bet it leads to more than one minority getting interviewed for some jobs so the team doing the interviewing doesn't look like it's interviewing a token minority, unless they plan to hire a minority anyway. Let's face it, most teams know who they want to hire ahead of time, regardless of ethnicity of the guy they have in mind.

yeah i was upset when one team got fined for not interviewing a black coach. they only interviewed the guy they wanted.

I'm all for equality in the work place. But forcing places to interview black coaches just to keep from getting fined is silly. all it its going to do is force teams to make fake interviews and have people talk like the guy only got the job because he was black.

Like the last week a black couch was one of the first in some school. They only talked about the fact that he was black and NOT his credentials for the job.

I hate that rule. It's a stupid rule because a team (the Lions) can invite over 5 minority coaches and have each coach decline to be interviewed. The NFL will then fine the team for unfair hiring practices, even though they proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that they tried to interview a minority coach. That's ridiculous.
