A Federal Appeals Court has overturned a lower court's ruling regarding the NFL's draft rule (i.e. a player must be three years removed from high school to enter the draft) leaving Maurice Clarett, Mike Williams, and several others in limbo unless a supplemental draft takes place.

Story (From Yahoo! News)

This really sucks for Mike Williams who gave up his right to play another year at USC by hiring an agent :(

Peace

Like I said in the locked thread, it's probably a good thing. I'd hate to see the aftermath of a 19 year old kid getting lit up by ray lewis or brian urlacher.

I agree, I was hoping he'd be allowed to go pro, just because a lot of the seasoned NFL types saw what he was doing as disrespectful to the league. Several of them said that practice would NOT be easy for him if they were on his team.

Williams gambled and lost. now he has to pay for it. I don't feel sorry for either one of them.

So, 18 year olds can and do go fight, bravely, for our Army....but an 18yr. old can't take a padded hit from a linebacker or a safety?

Funny.....

Of course, they are two different occupations. But, what do you mean by your statement?

I have no idea how being 18 and fighting for your country should allow someone to be 18 and play professional football. I'm missing your connection with the two.

The NFL has it's own rules as a private organization. They should be able to enforce those rules.

i dont understand this statement on ESPN- If Clarett and Williams are declared eligible for the draft after it takes place, the NFL already has said the two would be part of a supplemental draft.

how do u have a draft with 2 players

The NFL has had several Supplemental drafts. Typically they havce players who were ineligible for the draft BUT were unale to go back to school.

Perhaps they dropped out or were deamed ineligible.

The great thing for mew, as a chargers fan, is that next year we could see Eli throwing to Williams ;)
