Are you in favor of the new rules regarding protection of the quarterbacks knees from unnecessary roughness? Personally, I would like to see QB's stay in the game longer.

I understand the rules, since the amount of money they invest in QB's is quite a bit. I don't mind them.

I think the NFL could use less ruffing the brady penalties...if your one of the 22 men on the field at any given time you should understand the risk to yourself

That rule should not be just for QBs but for every position really. Nobody should be hit below the knees.

Football is a contact sport. If they keep going down the road they are on it won't be long until they have to rename the NFL the National Flag Football League

How about we just stop playing football and go to flag football to keep all you Nancys from worrying about guys getting hurt.

Defense needs to be able to hit guys or it's just a god damn game of catch and no longer football.

Let's just have teams of nerds, who can play Madden (whatever year it is) football?? Then it's only a virtual injury!

Better yet, let's bring back quarterbacks like Terry Bradshaw. Granted, he's probably suffering from all those hits now, but manly quarterbacks of the 70's would take a hit, get up, and throw a touchdown pass on your pansy defense!!

I am not a fan of the "Brady Rule" personally. I think it was Ray Lewis that said that if you are going to protect the QB below the knees, you need to protect everyone below the knees. Correct me if I am wrong on Ray Lewis saying this.

I don't mind it if it's called consistently on all quarterbacks in the NFL, which it isn't. It doesn't happen very often anyway.

I think that's a toughie. It is sort of unfair to have one set of rules for one particular position that does not apply to other positions. However I do agree with the need to REASONABLY protect the QB, but I think it has gotten a bit overdone and silly.

you hit people in the legs to ensure they go down. if pro players want someone to play patty-cake with them to avoid injury, they should find a new job.

edit: even in peewee football they taught us to go for the knee/thigh area and pull up on the calves.

That's what always bugs me about American Football. They can't tackle.
And they might ban using on some players the most effective way to tackle? Madness.

true. But I would like to see more of an emphasis on actual tackling rather then "big hits." It's not really part of the game, and whenever some brickhead thug wannabee goes for the big hit rather than a real tackle, then misses and gives up a big play, the team suffers.

I hate fuckers that choose flash over athleticism.

what do you think a real tackle is? to me that's getting low and wrapping. 'big hits,' by contrast, makes me think of guys just ramming their upper bodies into each other at full speed.

Someone on Joe Buck Live (don't remember who it was) mentioned the NFL is talking about making a rule that running backs aren't allowed to lower their head when running the football, because of the increase of concussions and neck injuries. If you think the Brady Rule is bad...imagine that...

yes, exactly. wrapping arms, grappling, solid tackles.

"Ringing your bell," or "cleaning your clock" is not tackling. it's stupid.

so yeah, I really don't have a problem with below the waist, b/c that's generally the best way to tackle. the problem is that douchebags have been hitting below the waist, not tackling.

oh, this is retarded. Let's just wait until the increased incidents of whiplash if that rule ever goes through

its because of sportscenter. players are going for the big hits rather than wrapping up the ball carrier. hoping to make the top 10 plays of the day or at least the highlight footage.

the worst are those who try big hits after the team just get gashed for a big gain then proceeds to celebrate because he rocked the other guy.

I say we bring Hockey rules and edicate into the game. You cheapshot the QB. Except an enforcer to break your teeth. If he cant, expect your QB to be toothless by the end of the game.

Couldn't agree more. I'm a Vikings fan, and my favorite defensive player is Antoine Winfield. The guy just flat out tackles...doesn't go for the "big hits".

yeppers. The behavior is encouraged at all levels. Remember when Madden added the "hit stick" to the controls? that doomed upcoming players to brainless playing for the foreseeable future.

You do realize that the people hitting the quarterback these days are MUCH faster and MUCH larger than the players from the 70s and 80s.

Go to the hall of fame web site (http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/positions.aspx) and notice that hall of famers from the 70s would only be of average size in the modern NFL.
