For the particular county of Prince George's, they would have fucked up those tax dollars regardless; highest property tax rate in the state but roads are neglected and there's plenty of internal corruption and other gobbling up of waste.oh god that's...right where I live.
But yeah, the thing about football is usually the tailgating and, well, probably not remembering the game at all, if you ever make it into the game. UMD has a really good college stadium and it is a fun place to watch a game--I do like going to college games, but it's still a thing where you aren't going to be able to follow everything that's going on.
All of the previous being said, my main gripe with pro games, especially and maybe exclusively the NFL, is that I ain't paying those fucking billionaire owners and that org one red fucking cent to support their property that they already extracted my money to pay for. Fuck them.
The "nicer" places in PG are also run by more nosy municipalities(i.e Cheverly or College Park) who also levy their own local tax in addition to the already high county tax. I used to deliver pizzas, and two municipalities were Hyattsville and Cheverly; for locales that didn't tip well, Cheverly had a better reputation. Then there were the unincorporated areas east of Kenilworth and south of 410.
Sports stadiums effects can vary but the governments bend over backwards for them because of the ancillary income taxes from both reeling in workers and businesses around the stadium; I'm not sure if the economists doing the studies ever did work in accounting for a company or as a treasurer for a local government. Whether that actually helps them break even might depend on the location itself. Landover was a shithole and it really hasn't risen up from a place of bad schools and otherwise undesirable characteristics that cause people to still avoided. No one wants to deliberate drive on 495 to Landover like they would for Tysons or some similar place.
