Just heard a Super Bowl ad. Not only doesn't pay the halftime acts anymore but now they have a sponsor.

Look up greed in the Dictionary you get

1. intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth, power, or food:
2. The NFL

Happened yesterday, but Dan Quinn to coach the Commanders.

I am fine with that hire. The fact they have adults running the show now with a real GM, I am okay with whatever decision they make at this point.
This seemed like a weird hire to me. Defensive minded coach who I thought for sure would go to Seattle. I'm guessing he probably wasn't their first choice, but since the Lions guy backed out, maybe they settled for him. But, Commander's D was pretty bad so no doubt he can at least improve that. Hiring Kingsbury as OC is probably a good move to get their offense going too. Heard on one of the shows they should make a play for Fields if they can't get the LSU QB or Williams. That'd be interesting.

Well they have the 2nd pick so getting 1 of 2 QB's shouldn't be an issue.

Quinn was the defense coach for Seattle when they won the SB. Left to become the HC in ATL. I'm glad they didn't rehire him.

Dan Quinn was the third choice after the Lions' OC Johnson and the Ravens DC Mike Macdonald. The Athletic reported that the Commanders' plane was en route to Michigan to hire Johnson when his agent texted the Commanders that he was passing.

Supposedly Kingsbury was headed to Las Vegas as OC, but the Raiders wouldn't offer him a 3 year deal?

This is not true.

Commanders were in route to INTERVIEW him in person. There is no news that he was their #1 choice.

Aside from that, nobody other than the Commanders themselves know who their choices and priority were. Everything else is just pure speculation and rolling with what the media wanted them to pick.

I saw something the other day about Macdonald getting an offer from Commanders but then the Seahawks gave him a better offer so he picked there. Last I saw though, there was nothing to confirm this.

I should have wrote "potentially hire Johnson" but otherwise, I paraphrased the reporting from The Athletic. The Commanders were flying TO him, and if the interview went well, I figure they would have made a formal offer. None of this is all that speculative, including saying that Quinn was one of their top three choices:

Washington’s search committee endured a wild January that saw the Commanders pivot from both Ben Johnson, who decided to remain in Detroit, and Mike Macdonald, who was hired as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks. Quinn remained a leading consideration throughout the deliberate process. The acclaim from the likes of the Cowboys’ All-Pro Micah Parsons and countless others suggests whether Quinn was the first, second or third choice, he might be the right one.

(The article is probably paywalled.)

they will of course draft Flake Mayye out of UNC and of course he will suck even more than he does now, and the DC football team will continue to suck. :\

Hope the officiating doesn't ruin it but I could see it coming down to a late PI call toward the end of the 4th quarter keeping a drive alive for a game winner.

You didn't say he was one of their top 3 - you said he was their 3rd choice after the other 2.

No one knows what would have happened at that interview. It was their first possible time they could even do an in person interview with him. And from what is clear now, he wanted to stay with the Lions, assuming that meeting would have gone well is a pretty bold claim to make now.

I can't read that article due to paywall but I've been following this whole thing since before the playoffs even started. I listen to DC sports radio like 6 hours a day. Nobody knows the actual order of who the Commanders wanted as their coach. Everyone is making assumptions but no one knows for sure, other than the people running the show themselves. That stuff is all speculative.

Well, hopefully the 49ers don't commit pass interference necessitating a call then, eh?

Dan Quinn has been calling into local sports radio shows for interviews since yesterday and I'm really liking what I'm hearing. And I'm not saying like yeah he's going to win a SB year one and all that stuff, not even talking football in general. I just like how personable he is and how he sounds super humble and carries himself with the radio hosts. He just seems like a regular dude who's down to earth.

his td's

damn, I didn't realize that happened. Well deserved, dude was/is such a beast.

How many more times do you expect a kick returner to account for pretty much the entire offense of a SB team in one season? Probably never again.

Chicago was fortunate to have such a fantastic defense that year, haha.

I think if you are KC and you win the toss, take the ball. SF always plays worse when down. If you get off to a hot start and get a TD, it's not a lot of a lead but it's the way to go against the niners.

Jesus Christ this fucking jingoistic introduction is just ridiculous. So over the top.

Also, who is rooting against team Jesus (this is from the right-wing echo chamber called X)

San Fran D shutting down the Swifties.

Good time for a 60 yard punt so Reid has time to figure out better play calls.
