NF7-S Temperature readings (was reasonable expectations...)

EDIT: As I find out more about v2.0 of the mb, I'm finding that temps are read high. How much higher? I'm guessing 8-10C so far.

So I plunked down some money for a 1700+ 0307vpmq, nf7-s v2.0, sk7 w/panaflo m1a and a 512 meg stick of twinmos pc3200. Right now I'm about to shut my comp down, as it's hitting 65C running p95 for all of 15 minutes. I've clocked it up to 2 ghz @ 1.7v. I have good case cooling - coolermaster ATC-201, 2 L1a fans up front, 1 up top for the blowhole, and the rear exhaust is one of the stock YS Tech fans for the rear exhaust. Powered by a Truepower 330. System temps are approaching 36C, case temps are unknown... MBM doesn't recognize it properly. Are my expectations to reach 2.1-2.2 on this setup unreasonable? I'm all about hitting the big numbers, but not unsafely. Would an SLK800 or Alpha 8045 fare much better?

Things seem to have stabilized around 65-67C, which is much higher than the temps I see many people running their systems. The system has not hiccuped once since I started "priming" nearly 3 hours ago. While not an extended period of time, I expected at least some bizzare behavior, if not outright crashes by now. Could the temps be off?

EDIT: first bizzare behavior - went to install some software and the buttons were blank, same for all software installs. Going to cut the speed down a bit.

Obviously a close watched thread... :)

I've dropped the voltage back to 1.6v, which has dropped my temps down to 58C at a sustained load. If the system is ok tomorrow morning after running prime95, I may try dropping the voltage .025 to cut the heat back. I guess this SK7 and 32cfm M1a isn't "decent cooling" enough for the common 2.1-2.2 that this chip hits. :frown:

btw...

people say that the abit boards (n7f-s) report temps higher than they are...

if winbond hardware monitor says 67... it's most likely somewhere between 57 to 63...

so if it's now 56, that's not too bad.. 46 to 51 for full load...

the sk7 may not be enough.. might have to upgrade to a slk-800 or 900 (they are beastly).... :)

Whew, that's a relief. My Tbird has been a tank @ 55-57C on my KT7a-raid for over 2 years now, so I'm not afraid of a little heat. :)

I'm doing a google search on the NF7-S having "off" temperature readings... not finding much useful information. Anyone else notice this?

Whoa... I wake up this morning and temps were around 63C, though prime95 was still running fine.

I went to check abit's site and almost installed a bios for v1.0/1.1./1.2 of the board (I have 2.0) that is supposed to correct the temperature readings. Am I to assume that the 2.0 reports correct temperatures?

I hope not. :) BTW, boosted y(our) question about temps in the NF7 thread.
