NF7-S Problems - Shutdown issue,BIOS issues - *SOLVED*

Jus got ahold of this board today,and installed windows 2k Pro.

Having a few problems with it,but hoping its not the Board itself.

Main problem is when shutting the system down from within windows,windows will close out,but the Board will power right back up without shutting down.But after it posts after doing this,there will be colored blocks on the screen.
I have to manually pull the plug to get the board to power off.then everything is fine after turning back on.(Thinking maybe its a BIOS setting i'm missing in the Power section)

Another problem is sometimes going into the BIOS,it will pause on a black screen with a blinking Cursor,and a blue bar at the bottom.does this between 1-3 times before letting me into BIOS at times.will have to ctrl+alt+del to restart.

And lastly, if i try to go into the PCHealth screen within BIOS, the BIOS will freeze no matter what.but it only does this in the PCHealth screen.

Temps are showing around 47C-49C.

Specs:
NF7-S
Athlon XP 2000+
1X 512Mb PC2700 - 1X Stick 512Mb PC2100 - In Slots 2/3 (Tried slots1/2 as well)
(Also showing Dual Channel DDR after switching to 2/3)
Radeon 9800 Pro
Win2k Pro
80G IDE Drive
OnBoard SoundStorm/LAN


And information on this would be appreciated.

(All items was working fine before switching Board)


Edit: Ok got everything sorted out: The BIOS freezing problem/Black screen blue bar, was caused by the CPU Shim,or the HS/F i had on it. (Thinking the Shim mainly)took off Shim,replaced HS/F and it fixed it.

The shut down problem was due to the PSU.after finding out that if i switched to hibernate,came out of Hibernate,then shutdown after that it would shutdown fine.so that gave me the idea that it was the PSU.swapped to a 400W and it fixed the problem

Wait, you're mixing RAM? Very bad idea... try running memtest to see if it's okay. Also, check for short circuits or bad contact on motherboard pins for power. The other thing is your temps seem a bit high for idle, bad HSF contact maybe? Last, update to the latest BIOS (27).
 
Slots #1 & #3, and #2 & #3 result in DC mode (I.e., slot #3 must be populated)

AS mentioned above, your ram may not be playing nice together. Try just one stick.

Make sure the cpu and ram are run insynch. Both sould be at FSB 133 (maybe reported at 266 for ram to account for DDR).

BTW: What PSU are you using in there?

Yes, some can run such config's w/o a problem. But these boards can be a bit picky about ram. THIS SITE is another good one (I like abit's too) and has a "sticky" on brands of ram that appear to be incompatible with the board. Check it out, it's the third one from the top IIRC.

Could just be a bad stick, in which case Memtest86 will confirm.

Thanks for the replies.

Was planning on trying 1 of the sticks alone to see what happens right here in a second.
didn't have a chance to last night.

The PSU is a Sparkle 400W i believe.i'm sure its 400,will double check brand when i swap Ram.

One of the sticks of Ram (2700) i just got,so gonna pull it out to see what happens first.
New stick is Crucial,other is Kingston i think.


Will post how it goes here in a few mins.
But i recall someone else here had the same problem with the shutdown problem.it was posted in the "Official NF7-S Thread" that i scanned through last night.

Ok swapped out the Ram,but no help.

Pulled HS/F from CPU,and took off the copper Shim,then reatached another HS/F without the Shim,and have yet to have the problem going into the BIOS,and it don't freeze inside the PChealth tab in the BIOS.

Thinking the Shim had something to do with it.


But no luck with the Shutdown issue.
I can actually hear the Drives clicking off,but then the system powers right back up.

And noticed that it was a Sparkle PSU,but only 250W.
But don't believe that is causing the Shutdown problem.
It has worked fine with the last 2 Boards. (Both Athlon XP)

Checked PSU voltages and they all seem normal,or slightly above normal.

Got everything sorted out.

Wanna thank all of you for the helpful replies.

The HS/F suggestion helped me out for the BIOS Problem. (Took off Shim,replaced HS/F,fixed the Problem)

And found out the PSU was the culprit after all for the Shutdown problem.
after switching to Hibernate,back out of Hibernate,then shutting down it worked fine,seemed it was the PSU...and it was.
