As long as the channel sizes are balanced, this should run fine, correct? IE, I'll need 512MB in the single-DIMM channel, and put my 2 256's in the dual-DIMM channel . . .

I've got 2x256 now, and was going to order another 512MB for Doom 3. ;)

Yes. Keep in mind though that even if the system is completely single channel you will not notice a difference unless doing distributed computing or benchmarking... Still what you laid out should be correct.

Correct. Here's a link to a thread that discusses adding the third stick to a DC setup.

I tried it last week in my rig, seemed to work fine (even though I've got 98se and there are supposed to be problems with ram in excess of 512MB). I also did this little test in anticipation of Doom3 (Happy days for Newegg and the like! - Hardware sales are gonna go up.)

Good deal, your config is almost identical to mine. 9800 Pro, NF7-S, 2600 mobile at 3200. ;)

No problems running three DIMM's at 200MHz?

"No problems running three DIMM's at 200MHz? "

No problems, only had to clear the cmos the first time I tried to boot.
