Abit NF7-S rev 2.0
Geforce3 ti200
Buffalo Tech PC3200 ram
Athlon XP 2500+ Barton
Antec 400W PS

Ok here's the deal, all of the other components work, I have tested them and they are stable and working

The first board I got from newegg was used and did long beeps (vid/mem error according to phoenix) so that was a bad board I think

2nd time around (2nnd board form newegg) with only the essentials plugged in, booted up then NF7-S just fine, POSTed beautifully..
So I set it to fail-safe mode, restart- no problems,
Shut the machine off, plug in HD's and the rest of my components

I plug the power cord in, and the machine powers up without me pressing the power button. I shut it off, the machine now does the same continuous long beeps as before, even with everything unplugged, RAM in different DIMM slots, etc

I brought it to a local computer store to see if my BIOS was corrupt
they say that they have been having a ton of BIOS corruption issues with Abit NF7-S's even the rev 2.0s

Is there any truth to this? What seems to be my problem? Did I get another bad board? Is there a new bios they could somehow flash? they said their "machine" needs an adapter to flash it right

I appreciate any help out there! You guys are the best! Thanks!

Take the battery off the board and give it 5-10 minutes. Then reinstall and try again. This fixs a lot of problems.

Yes, but...

SNDS. Sudden Nforce Death Syndrome.
Except the usual report is that it won't post at all after you change something in the BIOS while the mobo is wildly OCed. That is not your case.

To explain, nForce2 mobos, unlike any other, write to the flash ROM when you exit the BIOS setup. When OCed this has some tendency to go wrong.

>I plug the power cord in, and the machine powers up without me pressing the power button.
Strange. That does not sound like a BIOS problem. If the mobo was shut off with the switch, it always is off when plugged back in. I really don't know how or why. In fact, the mobo needs the switch to power back on even if you unplug the power cord to shut it down, unless the mobo was totally dead when unplugged.

Take the video card out and reseat it, making very sure it is in all the way. If you have another video card, try it.

Despite the fact you have an excellent power supply, I would wonder about it given what happened.
